I know there have been a lot of special releases in the past few months by Dooney & Bourke for Disney. The Haunted Mansion Collection, the bags for the Food and Wine Festival as well as for the Avengers runDisney event, are just a few. All of these collections were to commemorate something new or limited to Disney. This collection is simply the newest collection to Disneyland… no preordering, no having to attend the event…. these will be the newest collections carried at the Disneyland Resort!
The release of the newest two collections will take place on December 13, 2014, at Disney Vault 28 in the Downtown Disney District at Disneyland. The Creative Director of Dooney & Bourke, Ian Ray, will be on hand to release the two new collections as well as be available for signing from 11a.m to 1p.m.! Now, the store actually opens at 8a.m. and, I’m sure you can imagine, the line for this will be long. You may not want to wait until 11a..m. to show up. I know that if there was any way for me to be in California next weekend, I would be in that line before they opened… but that’s just me.
The first of the two collections is entitled Disneyana. It is a collection that has been inspired by characters and attractions from around the Disneyland Resort! If you take a close look at the design, you will see Sleeping Beauty’s castle, the ferris wheel from California Adventure, Space Mountain, Matterhorn and also assorted Disney characters, like Pluto and Mickey, in the mix! The base of the bag is white and all the characters and attractions are done in bright, fun colors. This design could be used year round quite easily. There are additional styles that have yet to be shown but let’s take a look at the cost of the ones we do know about. The Letter Carrier is $178, Large Tote is $358, Gretta Tote is $268 and the Satchel is $228.
The second design is called Body Parts. I think it’s pretty clear where that name came from. Mickey and Minnie have been represented by some of their most iconic parts, just as they have in collections you may have seen for the kitchen and bathroom. I personally love the fact that the base color of this bag is gray. I like variety in my handbags (it gives me an excuse to buy more) and there aren’t many Disney bags with this base color. The Body Parts are in the core Mickey and Minnie colors of red, black, white and yellow. This collection (seen in above photo) includes a Pouchette Cross-body ($178), Cross-body ($228), Wallet ($198) and a satchel ($268). As per the aforementioned collection, there are additional styles which have not yet been shown.
Apparently, at this release event, there will also be a bonus sale! “For our Dooney & Bourke fans, a selection of 84 unique and never produced Disney themed bags and accessories in a variety of silhouettes will be offered for sale. These bonus sale items will range from $38 to $328 and will be available on a first come, first serve basis, while supplies last. Limit ONE (1) bonus sale item per Guest. Discounts do not apply to bonus sale items. All bonus item sales are final.” per Disney Parks merchandise.
I know I would kill to be able to attend this event! I love to get my hands on this kind of thing before it is available main stream and this certainly would appear to fall into that category. It has not been said if the Body Parts collection will also be made available in Florida nor has it been said about the Disneyana collection. I would assume the Disneyana collection has a better chance of just staying on the West coast since it displays Disneyland Resort icons. There is also no word on whether it will be made available at the Disney Store online.
Does this mean a similar event is in the works for Walt Disney World?? What do you think? Would you like to purchase a bag from one of these collections? Let me know in the comment box below!
