When it comes to high quality, classy Disney designs, Harveys seatbelt bags stand out. If you are like me, then your collection already includes at least a few of these incredible bags. My favorite sets are the Nightmare Before Christmas, Sorcerer Mickey 2013 D23, Mickey and Minnie In Love, and Disney patchwork. These designs are beautiful, but with all of the characters, movies, rides, and memories making up our mental imagery of Disney, it’s sometimes impossible to find exactly what you’re looking for with the sets launched by Harveys.
Debbie Saunders’s talent is the answer to your needs. Debbie reinvents Harveys bags to turn them into a Disney dream come true. By adding patches, bows, and other little details, Debbie customizes Harveys bags to make your Disney dream come true. She makes any and all sizes, from Minis, click and go’s, and wallets all the way up to totes. She has even made pillows out of the seatbelts. For more complicated pieces, she deconstructs Harveys bags to use the belting in your design. This means an infinite number of possibilities for bags and allows for mixing and matching of Disney styles and solid color bags.

Though Debbie is a big Mickey, Minnie, and Rapunzel fan, she began reimagining the bags when she decided to make herself a Harry Potter purse. Being a big HP fan, she had been sorted into Hufflepuff and wanted to represent her house. When fellow Harveys fans saw the HP bag, they started suggesting that she make custom Disney ones as well, and things took off. Her customizations started with the addition of colored belts and patches, but has now expanded into deconstructing Harveys pieces and using those belts to make smaller bags and bows, or to add them into other Harveys bags.
Debbie has made loads of great bags giving ladies a chance to represent their preferred characters and movies. One of her favorites was a Hollywood Tower Hotel bag, reminding us all of the adrenaline rush of the Tower of Terror ride in Hollywood Studios. Of the ones I’ve seen, Debbie’s Pinocchio, Stitch, Haunted Mansion, Alice in Wonderland, and Dumbo bags have all been extremely well-executed. Debbie also uses Harveys styles that have not been released with Disney flair, such as the Sophia, which Debbie has used for Tiana, Belle, Ariel, and Snow White bags. Debbie makes the patches for these bags herself.
(This Hollywood Tower Hotel large satchel comes complete with a pin with Chip and Dale as porters of the hotel. The hangtag and room key are great touches)
(Debbie knows how to work colors. This summer bag’s blue hues work as the water the turtle is swimming in and complement Stitch’s own blue coloring)
(This Pinocchio bag plays on his shirt and hat. The big blue bow matches Pinocchio’s own)
(Again, colors are key here. Dumbo’s ears and grey skin are the focus)
(Alice’s dress matches the bag perfectly, with a black bow matching her shoes and headband)
(Debbie has fans all around the world. This Australian buyer purchased two Sophia bags, a mini messenger, and a pillow case)
Her future plans involve taking apart a coveted 2013 D23 Sorcerer Mickey bag. As a limited edition bag, these are very difficult to find. By incorporating strips of belt from this bag, Debbie is able to give others a piece of the magic. She hopes to see a revival of this print from Harveys in different styles, but in the meantime, her creations are a great way to get some Fantasia into your accessory collection.

Her most popular creations include the bags with patches, custom-sized bags, and mixing solid color Harveys bags with Disney belting. Debbie is a big fan of the recently released Jungle Book styles and she hopes to see something with Zootopia in the future. She also noted that Joy from Inside Out has a bag similar to a Harveys parkhopper, so perhaps they will use that as inspiration for a new style.
It takes a very creative person to make these bags. Debbie has a wonderful eye and pays a lot of attention to the little details that make these bags personal. Debbie comes up with her own ideas or you can order something you thought up yourself. Her creations’ cost covers the price of the Harveys bag and most customizations are between $15 and $50, with adjustments for more complicated work. Debbie’s page is on Facebook, found at https://www.facebook.com/groups/134802030203255/, where you can view her past designs and talk to her about your own special bag. With the combination of Harveys quality, Debbie’s creativity, and possibilities only limited by your imagination, I am certain you will love your new bag.

Emily spends her days pretending to be a Disney princess in New York. She makes it down to Disney World every year for the holidays and soaks in enough magic to hold her over until her next trip. Emily loves fireworks, parades, and eating all the yummy food at Disney. She collects Disney Dooney and Bourke bags and the Disney-themed Alex and Ani bracelets, so she can keep a bit of magic in her life day to day.
