One of my favorite parts of gearing up for a trip to Walt Disney World is the packing! This may seem odd, as packing can be a grueling chore for most trips, but the greatest thing about going to WDW as an adult is that you can let loose and be a frivolous as you want! The only confine to your clothing is comfort. All too often, that leads us to wearing any ol’ thing in the parks. Not that I judge that! I’ve definitely imbibed around the world in a pair of Minnie lounge pants that I bought at my hotel gift shop. Sometimes you just gotta wear that “I survived Everest” Tee! I get it! Yet, for women who like to look more pulled together while channeling the spirit of the parks, this post’s for you!
As a plus size fashion writer, I specialize in chic looks for women over a size 12. Of course that means that I have been swooning over the Disney for Torrid collaboration. For this guest post, I have included pieces that can be found in plus sizes as well as smaller sizes, like the Disney line for Torrid’s sister company Hot Topic. So no matter what your size, style or favorite park, I’ll have you covered!
Behold our favorite fashions inspired by each park that are cool, cute, comfy and not too childish or cartoony.
Magic Kingdom
Let’s start with the classics. It’s all about the princesses, so why not feel like royalty for the day? Bring on the bling and castle couture! Dooney & Bourke’s Princess bag is the perfect example of a grown-up take on fairy tales. All of the practicality and quality of a luxe leather crossbody, but with a more unique Disney design.
Think of how cute you will look riding the Tea Cups in the Disney Store’s split back tank, Melissa Ultragirl’s Alice-inspired flats and your fave distressed skinny jeans! As we said, we are crazy for Hot Topic’s and Torrid’s Disney lines! The villain stained glass dress and the Ariel crochet-accent cardigan are the first of many Hot Topic/Torrid items that we suggest you put in your suitcase.
Not ready to commit to a whole outfit? Try accessories like this watch or these new official Belle ears. Also, if you haven’t already checked out the new princess designs at Havaianas.com, do so now! One of the most comfortable flip flops to run around the park in, now has a Disney flair of its own.
Animal Kingdom
When you think of packing for Animal Kingdom, a few things obviously come to mind: animal prints and exotic influences. Here we suggest you bring out your boho side by pairing some choice “hidden Mickey” items with a comfortable chambray romper or on-trend “festival wear” like gladiator sandals.
Vera Bradley’s woven wristlet gives you just enough room for whatever your MagicBand can’t handle – like your phone or lip gloss- while never weighing you down. The Mickey icon tech shirt and animal print jersey sheath may no longer be available on other Disney sites, but you can find these and so much more at Mousetoyourhouse.com ,which specializes in gear sold in the parks regardless of season. She is the personal shopper for Disney Fashionista and, if you don’t see what you want, just tell her we sent you and she will do her best to get it! And we know you’re never fully dressed without your ears!! I’m sure you will find many pairs to buy on vacation, but if you want to bring something truly special to invoke envy from fellow park-goers, head over to Etsy.com. There is a seemingly endless well of local artisans crafting Disney-inspired ear headbands, like these cheetah bow ones from MiMisMouseHouse.
Hollywood Studios
There are two distinct ways to coordinate your clothing to this park: Star Wars or Old Hollywood. The only thing we’ve seen that kind of touches both styles is this fit- and-flare Rebel dress from Torrid. Now you can find Star Wars licensed merchandise everywhere, but we like these Jedi hoops! Hot Topic’s Star Wars sweat pants look more sleek than sleepwear when worn with a strappy caged tank. (Ears by ShopHouseofMouse on Etsy)
If neither the Dark nor the Light side appeals to you, put on some screen siren shades and stroll down to the Brown Derby! This is a great occasion to try one of the Disney swing dresses designed for Torrid. They sell out and cycle through designs quickly, so you may want to check eBay for more options. A Minnie icon floral peplum top looks retro pinup with high-waisted cropped jeans and Keds.
EPCOT
Last but certainly not least, my personal favorite… EPCOT! I always like to get a bit more dressed up for EPCOT day since you don’t need to worry about your skirt blowing up or getting soaked on a coaster. You are most likely eating and drinking your way around the World Showcase before taking a spin on Test Track. Check out some of these super cute dresses, including Hot Topic’s strappy-backed jersey dress with Marie from the Aristocats. While you are on their site check out these flip flops, making you look “tres chic” in classic black, white and red for the France Pavilion! These Minnie Floral prints embody the fun of the EPCOT Flower and Garden Festival!
Minnie Icon shirts with ruffle detailing are classy enough for those coveted Monsieur Paul reservations and cool enough for a hot day at the parks. If you just want to pay your respects to Future World, these Spaceship Earth Ears and Figment Ears by ModernMouseBoutique are must haves!!
