It’s only been a week or so since we discussed theme weddings and showed you a Little Mermaid themed faux wedding that was inspiring. Now, a short time later, we thought we’d show you the latest in themed weddings… a Maleficent inspired faux wedding! I think many little girls dream of being their favorite princess and grow up wanting a fairy tale wedding. What about the little girls with a darker side. Come on, these little girls do exist. The ones whose fave color isn’t pink but black and who prefer the darker side of movies and music. Those little girls deserve their dream wedding too! Perhaps this might capture their attention, Let’s take a closer look at this magnificent, villainous faux wedding.
This photo shoot took place in Batangas, a province in the Philippines, and was created by Rebellious Brides blog. The photography was done by Proud Rad photography. It as been stated in Huffington Post that it is reminiscent to “the romantic noir feel of the film” and I couldn’t agree more. The bride wasn’t in a white wedding gown. In fact, she wore a black, fitted dress with a plunging neckline. She even has wings and horns! Her makeup was on the darker side as well but she doesn’t come off as frightening to me. She still exudes beauty and strength, as a bride should, in my opinion.
The bridesmaids didn’t wear identical gowns but instead opted for mismatching gowns, one in pastel pink and one in a darker eggplant color. The pastel pink gown reminded me a little of Aurora and, if you’ve seen the movie (and if you haven’t, who not?!), you know that Maleficent has a soft spot for Aurora. It is only expected that Aurora be somehow represented at a Maleficent inspired wedding.
The color theme of the wedding was darker colors overall which were reminiscent of the Moors in the film for me. Rich purples, reds, greens and blues really brought the feel of Maleficent’s home to the photo shoot. The invitations made by InkScribbler were done with watercolors, similar to that of the Little Mermaid themed wedding we mentioned. This really brought out the whimsy of the Moors for me. I could picture Maleficent flying over the water as a child. A lovely image from the movie for me, personally.
Rebellious Brides was quoted for why they chose to do this darker themed faux wedding photo shoot, “ We grew up idolizing Cinderella and that’s probably the reason why we are hung up on the “classic” kind of bride. But we’ve come to a new era — a new era when children these days love characters like Elsa and Maleficent. Characters who are not your typical heroines — they are in fact REBELLIOUS. We are moving towards a new generation of acceptance, to some extent you can even call it tolerance and that’s what we wanted to celebrate in this concept shoot.”
I am personally loving this photo shoot. If you would like to see more photos from the faux wedding, check out RebelliousBrides.com! What do you think of this Maleficent inspired faux wedding?? Would you like a darker, rebellious themed wedding? Let me know what you think in the comment box below!
