Since moving to Florida last year, one of my new favorite holiday traditions is checking out the gingerbread displays at the Walt Disney World Resorts. This weekend, my family and I made our way to The Contemporary and The Grand Floridian to check out what the amazingly talented pastry chefs have created for this holiday season.
Now, as a Disney Fashionista, you know I had to dress-up for this occasion! I used this outing as an excuse to go full-on Christmas with my outfit! It’s so much fun dressing up for the holidays at Walt Disney World.
My skirt is from Her Universe, my shirt is from GraphicOutfits on Etsy, bag is Loungefly, gingerbread ears are from SayChEARS on Etsy, and gingerbread earrings are from RuthiesArtandClay on Etsy.
The Contemporary
We started our day at The Contemporary Resort with a lunch reservation at Steakhouse 71. I thought that if we ate lunch first, then we would be less likely to buy as many sweets and treats at the displays. It was a nice idea, but I was very wrong! We ate a full lunch, complete with appetizers, and still bought all the treats our hearts desired.
To celebrate Disney100, this year’s creation at The Contemporary is a reimagining of Cinderella Castle. This beautiful display had all the turrets a Disney Princess could ask for and plenty of silver details to bring that Disney100 theme to life.
When we arrived, Pastry Chef Jeff Barnes was there signing merchandise (and even a few autograph books for younger fans). Of course, that was all the excuse I needed to head right to the cash register and purchase this year’s ornament for The Contemporary gingerbread display. I love how this year’s ornament and pins include Edna Mode!
Other than the ornament, which is now hanging proudly on my Christmas tree, I also walked away with several treats including The Contemporary Gingerbread Shingle, Christmas Tree Butter Cookie, and Chocolate Peppermint Cookie. So far, we have sampled the Christmas Tree Butter Cookie and the Chocolate Peppermint Cookie, and both are amazingly delicious!
The Grand Floridian
After filling up on food, treats, and holiday spirit at The Contemporary, we hopped on the monorail and made our way to The Grand Floridian. As soon as we reached the main floor, the scent of gingerbread and cinnamon rolled over us in a delicious holiday scent wave.
The gingerbread house at The Grand Floridian is always extraordinary, but I found myself in awe of the details this year! The hand painted characters above each window, the vintage Christmas village on the balcony, and all the chocolate figurines throughout were just fabulous!
I absolutely love how each resort has different treat options! However, this meant that again, we indulged our sweet tooth and picked up even more treats for home! This time, we purchased a Gingerbread Shingle, Milk Chocolate Holiday Lollipop (my three-year-old thought it was HILARIOUS to bite the head, arms, and legs off), and a Gingersnap Cookie.
Alas, when we visited, The Grand Floridian was sold out of this year’s holiday ornament celebrating the gingerbread displays. However, they did have this adorable Beauty in the Beast themed pin available for purchase. I could totally see Cogsworth being made out of gingerbread – maybe that’s why he’s so spicy every now and then.
My family and I had such a great day exploring the Gingerbread Displays at the Walt Disney World Resorts. It is a holiday tradition that I cherish, and I cannot wait to add to these memories year after year.
Previously, Michelle and I toured the displays at Disney’s Beach Club Resort and Disney’s Yacht Club Resort. You can read about that adventure HERE.
