Fringe is HOT on trend this season, fashionistas. So is delicate floral embroidery, as seen on espadrilles, jeans, and tops. I’m totally feeling this trend – so much so that I took inspiration from “fringe queen” Pocahontas for this week’s Disney bounding look!
If you take a look around Urban Outfitters and Target, too, you’ll see that aztec and moroccan Kilim patterns and fringe and tassels are EVERYWHERE. These touches are reminiscent of Native American, tropical, or even middle Eastern.
Pocahontas reminds me of all things earthy — wooden patterns, leaves and feathers; with rich corals and turquoise, colorblocking browns, and fringe and braid textures. I went through a HUGE Pocahontas and raccoon phase in second grade. I owned the Pocahontas and John Smith dolls and I was inseparable with my Meeko stuffed animal. I still have made love for Pocahontas!
Scroll below to discover the pieces we selected for our Pocahontas: Colors of the Wind look.
Start off your look with some colorblocking. Pair a dark brown faux suede lattice wrapcrop top with a taupe faux suede hi-low fringe skirt. Hi-low “mullet” style skirts and dresses are still en vogue and cover you up just a little bit more since the crop top offers a flash of skin.
Accessories are where it’s at to get in tune with your nature side! Hints of the wood and the lake are seen in the KENNETH JAY LANE Two-Tone Beaded Layered Necklace that sits high up on the neck, almost like a choker. Kendra Scott turquoise Magnesite and Cubic Zirconia Maisey earrings appear as leaves of the wind. Those leaves are mimicked in the Natural Vibe ring set from Bling Jewelry, featuring a “Grandmother Willow” ring, darling bird friend, and wrapped leaves. Feature your sidekick Flit with a double ended hummingbird bracelet that continues to add faint pops of color to this neutral palette.
The Kate Spade New York Devoe Street Tinley Leather Crossbody in saffron/light gold lends itself to Pocahontas’ earthy, rich tones while also adding oomph with “colors of the wind”, a multi-color stud trim. Bop around in Rebecca Minkoff Emery denim slingback sandals that go nicely with the fringe and suede of the crop top and skirt.
