Yesterday brought huge news in fashion the fashion world. Coach has acquired Kate Spade (one of my all time favorite brands) for the low, low price tag of $2.4 billion. It brought a lot of questions to mind but the main one for me, and I’m sure many other Disney fashionistas, is does that mean there will be less Disney collaborations?
We are all eagerly awaiting the release of the Disney x Coach collection being released specifically for outlets on May 15th (I will be there getting video footage). This is the second collection from Disney x Coach in the last year or so. Kate Spade is no stranger to Disney collaborations with 2 releases of Minnie Mouse collections and the ever so fabulous Miss Piggy Collection. They both like to collaborate with Disney. With this acquisition brings the speculation there could be less Disney collaborations and, therefore, some very sad fashionistas.
This is not the first acquisition Coach has made. They bought Stuart Weitzman in 2015 and Stuart Weitzman is still going strong as a separate entity. Until I did some research for this article, I didn’t even know Coach owned that company! This tells me that Kate Spade will still be able to operate separately, with her own website, stores etc. It may mean less amazing deals at the outlets but the collections will continue to be made exclusive to her her brand.
What does that all mean? We should not be seeing any less Disney collaborations! Of course, since both Coach and Kate Spade have released multiple collections with Disney over the last year or so, we may not have had any new Disney collections coming our way in the near future anyway (insert sad face here). It wouldn’t be a result of this acquisition necessarily.
Do you feel more at ease, fashionistas? Did you know about the acquisition? Who do you love more, Kate Spade or Coach? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below!

I enjoy Kate Spade and her themed purses, clutches, and coin purses. My car’s license plate even has Kate’s name on it BUT… the 2.4 Billion $ tag concerns me. When will we all “acquire” a desire to help the homeless, hungry, and scared children in the U.S. and the world? When will we start to “collaborate”, in creative ways, to alleviate want and ignorance among our children? The first K.S. clutch I bought was the All Aboard Ship Clutch in 2012. It has been a joy to own. Let the playfulness in our lives continue for all of us, especially our children!
