The holiday season is a great time to show your Disney side, and when you have a family that celebrates both Hanukkah and Christmas, it’s nice to find decorations with Disney inspiration for both holidays.
I’ve always gone all out for the holidays, I love big shiny bows, and fancy wrapping paper, I love the way lights sparkle as the sun sets, and how even though the weather is cooler, everything just feels warmer. When we had our first son in 2012, my husband who celebrated Hanukkah growing up, and myself who celebrated Christmas decided that for him we would teach him about and celebrate both. For me, celebrating needs decorating, and decorating I must do! Being a long time Disney Addict, all of my Christmas stash was Disney, Disney, and well more Disney. Did Disney MAKE Hanukkah decorations though? I looked through my holiday belongings and found a personalized Mickey ornament given to me, my first year of marriage, a blue Mickey that said “Happy Christmakkah”. At that moment the search was on! To my surprise Disney does make Hanukkah decorations, and they are gorgeous!. Most notable to me are the wall hangings, they put out a different one almost every year, and really make a beautiful statement piece to hang over the table where we keep the Menorah.
This year Disney Parks has released their most stunning Hanukkah collection yet. The design is elegant, simple, and yet traditional all at once. The design for many of the decorations, dishes, and glasses is a traditional blue, with a swirl of silver creating the iconic Mickey Mouse head, and sparkling stars dappling the design in blues and silvers. The wall hanging this year even has the most delicate silver bells hanging off the bottom. There is even fabulous stemware this year, that is so breathtaking and stylish, I will probably continue to still use it even after the last candle has melted.
Another tradition that I’ve had for a long time, is getting a dated Holiday pin. Even before my son came along, I always got a Christmas one for me, and a Hanukkah one for my husband. My favorite from years past was a dreidel pin that held a smaller spinning dreidel in the center, complete with Nun, Gimel, Hei, and Shin. I’d spin it in the parks and if it landed on “Gimel” that meant I was getting myself some delicious candy from the Main Street Confectionery. Two adorable new pins debuted this year. The first is not dated, and depicts the spunky duo of Chip and Dale playing dreidel with a bag of gelt (gold coins). The second is the perfect pin for me, it’s dated with 2014, and you guessed it, has a spinning dreidel! That’s not all though, it features my precious boys “Huey, Dewey and Louie”. I’m a sucker for any of the Disney Ducks, especially Donald, Uncle Scrooge, and the boys. I really love both pins though, so I might have to get one as my “dated pin”, and the other one maybe I’ll add it to a hanging ribbon to help accent all of the gorgeous new decorations I found at Disney.
These wonderful decorations can be found the World of Disney store in the Downtown Disney Marketplace. Do you incorporate Disney into your Holiday decorations too? What are some of your favorites?
