Hey there, Fashionistas! Last week we let you know that The Dress Shop was re-stocked and ready at Disneyland. We also shared a first look at the brand-new Cinderella dress design that made it’s debut. Now, The Dress Shop at Cherry Tree Lane in the Marketplace Co-Op at Disney Springs will be fully re-stocked and ready to shop on July 27th.
It’s no secret that we are pretty obsessed with The Dress Shop! The apparel and accessories for this collection were created just for Disney Parks. The designs are perfect for fans of Disney Parks and feature whimsical patterns and some of our favorite Disney touches. Disney Parks Blog had the chance to interview David Soliman, area manager for merchandise presentation at Disney Springs, to learn how his team created the shop-within-a-shop at the popular accessories boutique.
“Since the collection gives a nod to mid-century style, we wanted to create a space that would feel sophisticated and unique while complementing the overall story of the Marketplace Co-Op,” explained David. “The dresses and accessories are colorful and beautiful, so we found many ways to prominently showcase them throughout the shop. The best example is the hatbox-inspired platform that greets guests at the entrance. It’s a striking visual that pulls people into the location.”
I don’t know about you, but I don’t need a hatbox platform to draw me into this shop – the dresses do that! I want just about every single one of the designs. But of course, Disney pays attention to each and every detail. The merchandise presentation team spent several months planning and designing the store’s details.
Mariana Martinez, a graphic designer with the Creative Services team, partnered with the team to develop a “Dress Shop” monogram that is incorporated throughout the area. “The team wanted something subtle and elegant so I started doodling using the letters ‘D’ and ‘S’,” said Mariana. “We ended up with a lovely monogram that guests may find hidden on the product displays. It’s a funny coincidence that ‘DS’ could also represent ‘Disney Springs.’”
To give guests a sense of the process behind each design, Mariana used black and white sketches of the dresses for shadowboxes used in the displays. These sketches were then colored and added to a collage of items including fabric trimmings adornments, and other Disney artwork. The dresses themselves are definitely on my “must-have” list, but these shadowboxes would be amazing for any Disney fan! Unfortunately, these are display pieces only and not for sale. But maybe they will pop up on eBay in a few years!
“[The shadowboxes] serves a simple visual item that pulls the whole program together,” continued David. “The vignettes resemble inspiration boards that a designer may have used when creating the overall collection.”
The Dress Shop returns to Disney springs on July 27 and guests will find then ten original dresses inspired by the Orange Bird, Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room, the Haunted Mansion, Tower of Terror and more! And as we shared with the collection re-stock in Disneyland, there is an all new Cinderella inspired dress that is sure to fly off the shelves.
The new Cinderella inspired design is stunning to say the least! It features metallic embroidery and is perfect for any Disney Princess. Here are few closer looks at the embroidery and detail:
Look for these items at Disney Springs starting July 27. Guests will also find The Dress Shop collection in Vault 28 at Downtown Disney District at Disneyland Resort. They are not thought to appear on the App because they usually sell out to quickly to even make it to the App. If you are hoping to get your hands on one of these lovely dresses, you can check HERE with Shop Theme Parks for pre-order or you can email Diane at [email protected] if you don’t see what you are looking for.
