The latest film in the Marvel Universe is getting ready to pounce into theaters. Black Panther is the much anticipated superhero film for this season, but it’s not all super powers and fighting bad guys. There is some serious fashion moments taking place as well. On Monday, Disney hosted Black Panther “Welcome to Wakanda” – a celebration of fashion inspired by the movie that included a daytime press preview and an exclusive evening event in celebration of the campaign.
Throughout the event, more than 40 fashion media and influencers met and interviewed the designers who created capsule collections inspired by the upcoming film. The designs are all about texture and feature one-of-a-kind pieces. Later in the evenings, pieces from CHROMAT, Cushnie et Ochs, Fear of God, Ikiré Jones, Laquan Smith, Sophie Theallet, and Tome were on display in an immersive, Wakanda-inspired venue. The venue hosted an exclusive New York Fashion Week party attended by film talent and other celebrities from across the Company; Disney and Marvel executives; and fashion, entertainment and mainstream media and influencers.
CHROMAT, Cushnie et Ochs, Fear of God, Ikiré Jones, Laquan Smith, Sophie Theallet, and Tome, were all selected for their dedication to empowerment and individualism through fashion. Following the event, the one-of-a-kind looks will be auctioned off via CharityBuzz.com in support of the humanitarian organization, Save the Children. Plus, Brother Vellies, Douriean Fletcher and Josh Bennett created capsule collections that will also be available for purchase on their respective websites on February 13.
Are you even more excited for Black Panther after this fashion sneak peek? I can’t wait to see the fashion and costumes used throughout the film! See you all at the movies.
