Earth day is on April 22, and the Disney Store is getting to celebrate in style. To honor Earth Day and to encourage reuse-ability, the Disney Store announced that they will be exiting the use of plastic shopping bags from all North American stores.
That’s right, the next time you head into your local Disney Store, there is a good chance you will not receive a plastic shopping bag. The switch from plastic to reusable will begin in May 2018 at all of Disney’s 2015 retail stores. To further celebrate this Green move, on Sunday, April 22nd, Guests will receive an exclusive Disney branded reusable bag as a gift with purchase while quantities last. The royal blue bag includes a large white silhouette of Mickey Mouse on one side, and the Disney Store brand image on the other.
Moving forward, Guests will have the opportunity to purchase a Disney branded medium or large reusable bag for $.99. After the initial blue bag launch, each bag will be a pleasant and bright lime green color (think Mike Wazowski) and looks sturdy enough to hold all of your magical purchases. In large white letter across the front of the bag reads “Disney Store.” At the bottom of the bag, smaller white font reads “Continue the story at ShopDisney.com.”
I do love the switch from plastic to reusable! I hope that as this new Green initiative rolls out, more colors and more designs will become available for the bags. Either way, keep in mind that the next time you shop at the Disney Store, you won’t be receiving a plastic bag. Plan for that extra $1 so you can tote away all your purchases in the new Disney branded reusable bag.
FYI- This has been going on in other countries, definitely Canada, for a while and it’s been working out great!
