Most of you know that not only am I the Disney Fashionista, I am also a pediatric nurse. Right now is a very scary time for all of us, but I can tell you that the fear is extra real for those of us working on the front lines. Mickey and Mandy, a small business I love, is bringing Disney Magic to healthcare workers and you can help them!
You have probably heard of the shortage of personal protective equipment (or PPE) that healthcare workers are facing. It’s true. This is not something the media is saying to scare people. We are literally rationing masks and preparing for the possibility of not having enough. When I heard about what Mickey and Mandy are doing to help, I couldn’t keep it to myself.
If you go to MickeyandMandy.com, you will find that they are making masks to send to hospitals (you can even pick where you would like it sent) and all they are asking for is people to pay for shipping. In other words, you go HERE and put one in your cart and all you pay for is shipping. Then they send the mask to a hospital of your choosing!
Now, as a pediatric nurse, the fact that there are Disney masks makes them even more special to me. It is true that, according to articles from the CDC, PPE is preferred to these masks, which are two pieces of fabric with an opening for a filter should they become available. They should be used as a last resort. They are made from cotton fabric. All I can say is that, in case we do run out of PPE, a fabric mask is better than no mask at all!
