Hello, fashionistas! Today, I am providing you with a Fashionista’s review of this year’s Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. I had the opportunity to attend the very first party of the season on Friday, August 11, 2023, and now I’m ready to share all my thoughts, opinions, and tips. Are you ready to jump right in? If so, then everybody screams because this is Halloween!
A Fashionistas Review of Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party 2023
Because this is Disney Fashionista, you know I have to talk about what I wore to this annual spooktacular event. While I did not dress in costume, I did dress in theme! My outfit theme was simply “Disney Halloween,” and I think I nailed it if I do say so myself!
My dress is from last year’s Halloween collection from Hot Topic, Mickey Jack-o-Lantern bag is from Loungefly, black and white polka dot sneakers from Torrid, Minnie Mouse ears from Etsy, and candy corn Minnie Mouse earrings from Etsy.
What do you think about my look? Did I do the theme justice?
Gearing up
The first step of any Disney Halloween party is getting your event wristband. You cannot access any of the amazing haunts of the night without your wristband. This year, there was a major upgrade in wristband style! A new, bolo style, ribbon wristband (in ever fashionable black and white) has replaced the plastic wristbands of parties past. I love this upgrade! The ribbon wristband was much more comfortable and just looked better overall.
I also stopped to pick up my trick-or-treat bag and Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party Map. This year, when you are given your bag, you are also given a full-size bag of M&Ms to go with it! It was a great way to kick off a night of candy exploration.
This party puts the TREAT in Trick-or-Treat
After getting my event wristband, grabbing a map, and picking up my trick-or-treating bag, I headed to The Confectionery on Main Street, USA to check out what Halloween goodies they had on display. Oh boy, I was not disappointed! Treats of every size, shape, and sugar variety were available and each of them looked absolutely delicious. My husband had to pull me away from the display case because I had warned him that we would be eating plenty of other treats throughout the night.
Specialty food, drinks, and treats are available throughout the party and many are event exclusives. You can read about the party food HERE. After much deliberation, I narrowed the list down to a few of my must-try treats.
The first treat on my list was the Zombie Fingers from Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe. While the presentation of this treat is fun and colorful, I was pretty underwhelmed by the actual fingers. They lacked flavor and seemed slightly stale. However, the key lime mousse was quite good but very, very sweet!
Later, we headed to Cheshire Cafe for the standout treats of the night. First, I have to write a bit of a love letter to the Queen of Hearts Slushy. It is a frozen cherry slushy, drizzled with black cheery puree and topped with whipped cream and a crown shaped chocolate piece for $5.99. I have been thinking about this slushy for days now! It was so good! I’m sure the fact that it was over 100 degrees, and it was a frozen drink is helping my review, but oh boy, it was delicious! This drink was NOT a party exclusive and will be available during regular park hours for the rest of the Halloween season.
Next, the MMMummy Treat is a flaky pastry with chocolate filling and topped with white icing stripes and sugar eyes. Essentially, it was a chocolate croissant, but it did not disappoint! This treat was not overly sweet and was not overly heavy, which was exactly what I wanted in the moment. The MMMummy Treat was $5.79 and is exclusive to Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party.
Finally, we need to talk about the candy haul! This is the combined candy collection from both me and my husband. Because the party has so much to offer, we definitely did not prioritize trick-or-treating, and we managed to make it through less than half of the candy stations. However, you can tell by our pile that we still walked away with plenty of sugar to keep us going for several days!
Spooktacular Entertainment
The things I love most about Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Parties are the entertainment options. There is just so much to see during these events! We took the time to listen to Rusty Cutlass in Adventureland and the Cadaver Dans in Tomorrowland.
There were also dance parties taking place in Tomorrowland, but I had left my dancing shoes at home and wore my running shoes so I could make sure to get the most out of the party that I possibly could.
During the party, you definitely do not want to miss the Boo to You Parade or the Halloween Fireworks. Both of these are must-do entertainment options and worth the time that you’ll spend sitting on a curb to mark out your viewing location.
Haunting Character Interactions
Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is a great time to meet characters that you do not normally see in the parks, and also to see some of your favorite characters dressed up in their Halloween costumes.
In Fantasyland, we spotted some friends from Wonderland and enjoyed watching their antics while drinking that amazing slushy. Later, in Tomorrowland, we spotted some Country Bears getting ready for a Halloween hoe-down.
Shopping for gifts from beyond
This year’s event has plenty of merchandise to commemorate the event. There is even an Annual Passholder exclusive t-shirt and pin this year. You can read all about the Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party Merchandise HERE.
Capture your ghoulish side
Throughout the event, walk-in photo frames were available and featured scenes from attractions of the past. I stepped into 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea in Adventureland, and we spotted a Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride frame in Tomorrowland. Guests can also find plenty of PhotoPass opportunities as well as Magic Shots throughout the night.
While I spent 7 hours at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, I did not get it all done! With so much to do, we actually only rode two attractions while we were there: The Tomorrowland PeopleMover and Pirates of the Caribbean. I think I need to go back for a second party night, just so I can get to some of the events, ride some of the attractions, and meet some of the characters that I didn’t have time for the first time around.
