What comes to mind when you think of Hawaii? For me, the blues of the water play a big part in my vacation fantasy. At one point, I considered pursuing a career in marine biology. It’s safe to say that I love marine life and all bodies of water. It’s no surprise that Aulani’s new Ocean Blue collection, dedicated to celebrating sea life, made the ocean explorer in me very happy. Fun fact: More than 20% of Hawaiian fishes living in reefs are only found in Hawaiian waters.
As the name and water itself suggests, the Ocean Blue pieces come in a variety of blue tonal and watercolor patterns. Typical reminders of an island paradise, such as palm trees, star fish, playful octopi, seashells, fish, sea turtles, and bubbles can be found on items in this collection. Apparel and accessories feature this print, ranging in choices from T-shirts to photo frames to cell phone cases to mugs. These items will be available at Kalepa’s Store. Lava Shack next to the pool will now carry Havaianas flip flops, engravable bracelets by Leather Treaty, and swimwear, among other vacation necessities.
For a minimal, contemporary souvenir, be sure to check out the Bradley and Lily pop-up location opening in late May. If you are a fan of stationery or you’re not sure what to bring back for a difficult relative, these will have you covered. They are classy and beautiful, including designs with a surfboard, the Hawaiian Islands, a close up of a leaf, and simple Hawaiian greetings. For a preview of these items, head to the Na Haku Pavilion near Kapela’s Store on May 27 from 3 pm to 7 pm or May 28 from 9 am to noon.
I wish I had a trip to Aulani planned even more now that I could be stocking up on ocean- themed goodies. These will easily brighten up any room in the house, or you could carry around a bit of the ocean with you on your cell phone or with a mug. I would find any excuse I could to have something with me as often as possible. If you’re taking a trip to Aulani, don’t miss out on the Blue Ocean items and don’t forget to take in the real ocean as much as possible.
