This week’s piece is a nod to all those who are in love. It may seem subtle and difficult to pick out the Disney reference but our resident jewelry expert, Rachel from Beautiful Baubles, is here to share the inspiration with us. When I heard the story behind the necklace and what some of the people who have purchased this necklace have done, I knew I had to share it with you all. Here’s what Rachel has to say:
”Inspired by the original story of Peter Pan, this antique gold necklace features an authentic wood and antique gold capped acorn (Peter’s kiss to Wendy) and a antique style thimble (Wendy’s kiss to Peter). There is something so sweet and innocent about this necklace, and it is a beautiful piece to wear in the fall! The thing I love most about this necklace, apart from the fact that it is inspired by my favorite Disney movie, is that it really can be worn by anyone with almost anything.
From Chapter 3 of Peter Pan:
She (Wendy) also said she would give him a kiss if he liked, but Peter did not know what she meant, and he held out his hand expectantly.
“Surely you know what a kiss is?” she asked, aghast.
“I shall know when you give it to me,” he replied stiffly, and not to hurt his feeling she gave him a thimble.
“Now,” said he, “shall I give you a kiss?” and she replied with a slight primness, “If you please.” She made herself rather cheap by inclining her face toward him, but he merely dropped an acorn button into her hand, so she slowly returned her face to where it had been before, and said nicely that she would wear his kiss on the chain around her neck. It was lucky that she did put it on that chain, for it was afterwards to save her life.”
So touching, right?!?! Now when I heard that one of her customers bought the necklace and used it to propose to his girlfriend and she said “yes”….. well that made me a little teary eyed. Then she showed me the picture above of a customer who used the piece as inspiration for a tattoo! That picture just made me smile. This necklace touches people. It touched me.
