If you were at the Dooney & Bourke Release Event for the Small World, Lovebirds, and LE Magic Bands Collections on July 23rd then you know what an awesome experience it was. I had the pleasure of meeting some new, and current, fashionistas while waiting in the Disney-Style line. From the lines and the amazingly patient Cast Members, to meeting style-guru “Isabella” and Creative Director for Dooney & Bourke, Ian Gray, combined with the opportunity to purchase these much-anticipated products on release day, this event was an experience like no other.
Let me start with the lines. I have to give recognition to the Cast Members working this event. The lines were well-organized and provided for a good flow to the process. The outside line ran from the Marketplace Co Op entrance, past Tren-D, around the front and side of Once Upon A Toy, and beyond the restrooms. Once the doors were opened, the Cast Members had us enter in small groups. We were then directed to one of three lines. There was one line for purchasing magic bands only, one line for purchasing Small World and Lovebirds bags only, and one line for purchasing both bags and bands.
Those of us waiting in line connected with one another as we were all there for a common purpose: to spend our money! The atmosphere in the line was lively and completely entertaining. I met fashionistas in tutus, fashionistas sporting other Dooney & Bourke bags, fashionistas who traveled to the Walt Disney Resort solely for the purpose of attending the release event, and a fashionista celebrating her birthday complete with flat pink shoes covered with frosting, sprinkles, and a cherry. And people wonder why I love Disney so much? Only at Disney can you have this much fun.
While waiting in line we were given a product sheet indicating that we could purchase only one of each silhouette of the Dooney & Bourke bags in the Small World or Lovebirds collections. The sheet also stated that we would be limited to purchasing up to two of each style of the Dooney & Bourke Magic Bands. When the doors opened to begin letting us in, style-guru “Isabella” emerged with the Small World shopper tote so she could let us take a look inside to see the lining of the bag (see the video on the Disney Fashionista FB page). The deep-purple lining was unexpected and I found the color of the lining to be a very warm color when I had actually expected the lining to be more of a lighter purple or pink cool color based on the color scheme of the bag.
Once inside, “Isabella” escorted Ian Gray to a tall round table where he met with the fans and autographed any product purchased. He was only there for this one day to attend the release event. The amazing part about this fact is that the only bags in the Small World and Lovebirds collections that will have his signature in them are the ones sold to fashionistas at the release event. A true bonus for attending! The same holds true for the Limited Edition Magic Bands. Ian Gray added his signature to the inside of the adorable boxes holding the Magic Bands. Not only are these four styles the first of their kind, but they also are limited to a production of 1500 per design. If you were lucky enough to attend the release event, and you chose to stay and have Ian Gray sign your Magic Band boxes, then you truly have acquired a very Limited Edition Magic Band.
Disney did a great job of organizing this release event and the Marketplace Co Op at Disney Springs hosted the event in marvelous fashion. I am hopeful that Disney will choose to hold additional release events at the Walt Disney World Resort, particularly for some of the additional Dooney & Bourke collections looming on the horizon. I highly recommend attending a release event if you ever have the opportunity to do so. Purchasing a product you have been following for months, on release day, with special events added to the experience, will certainly create a magically memorable day. Plan to get there a little bit early, plan to meet some fellow fashionistas, and plan to have a lot of fun.
Thanks for following the Disney Fashionista. We look forward to meeting all of you at future events.
