While it looks like we won’t be heading to Epcot for Cinco De Mayo this year, that’s okay! Because we can have our own Disney Cinco De Mayo at home. While I know this is a holiday much like St. Patrick’s Day that has been turned into a party day, for some it might just help make things feel more normal during these times.
Disney Cinco De Mayo Time
So what do we need for a social distancing Cinco De Mayo inspired by Disney magic? First, let’s set the mood and journey to Epcot. Normally while visiting the Mexico Pavilion I love to take a ride on the Gran Fiesta Tour starring the Three Caballeros! Of course, we can’t actually ride the ride, so we’ll have to use a little bit of technology. Luckily John “Panda” Saccheri has a great YouTube video that we can enjoy the ride remotely!
Drinks!
Of course, we also need drinks! What better drink than the infamous La Cava Avocado from La Cava Del tequila! You can actually find this recipe from many different sites online. My favorite version comes from Grilledcheesesocial.com though! Their recipe actually comes straight from Disney’s Tequila Ambassador, Hilda Castillo.
Let’s get dressed, shall we?
We found this gorgeous Minnie Mouse inspired tee HERE on SweetTexasTreasures. The Minnie design has serape stripes!
We’re all about the Minnie ears, so we can’t forget about the Pan Dulce Ears from shopDisney! These ears are decorated as delicious Pan Dulce (a favorite of mine as part of my upbringing in South Florida). The headband is also adorned with a sequined serape-striped bow.
To keep things festive and fun, you can grab these 3 Caballeros Buttons for yourself, and anyone you live with who is celebrating with you.
Time to decorate!
There really aren’t any “Disney” Cinco de Mayo decorations, so we’ll have to get creative! Tissue Pom poms are a fun decoration for the holiday, and they just so happened to be perfect for something else. Mickeys! You can put together pom poms of different sizes to create your own Mickey pom poms! Find them on websites like Party City, and Oriental Trading Company. Of course, if you’re looking to pass the time you can get really creative and make them yourself! I was ambitious and made a bunch using the Martha Stewart tutorial for my wedding.
While I don’t really equate Coco with Cinco De Mayo, it is a Disney movie that embraces Mexican culture. You can use paper goods from Coco though to help set the vibrant theme. However, I also love Elena of Avalor, so you can use decor from her as well!
For foods, just have fun and use your favorite recipes!
That’s pretty much all you need for your own Disney Cinco De Mayo! Just have fun, get creative, and enjoy! We’ll be back to enjoying holidays at Disney before you know it!
