Have you heard the buzz about the Genie+ and Lightning Lane Revamp? Disney Parks Blog released information this week regarding the new changes coming this summer to the programs. We’ll take you step by step through the process. You’ll be a master at it by the time it rolls out July 24, 2024.
First of all, let’s get the verbiage down. The service formerly known as Disney Genie+ will now be called Lightning Lane Multi Pass. Individual Lightning Lane will now be known as Lightning Lane Single Pass. Simple enough. The three main objectives Disney has for the change include:
- Make Lightning Lane plans before you’re here, for added confidence.
- Choose your experiences and times prior to purchasing, so you know what you’re getting.
- Book Lightning Lane passes for multiple vacation days, all in a single day.
Lightning Lane Multi Pass Revamp
This allows you to make 3 Lightning Lane selections in a theme park BEFORE you arrive to the park. You’ll also be given a choice of available times. On your park day, once you’ve used a pass, you can check the My Disney Experience app for availability and book another attraction.
Lightning Lane Single Pass
Not much is changing with this pass. You will still be able to purchase a LL and book a time for some of Disney’s most popular attractions, except now you can do it in advance.
Here’s the Real Tea…Planning Ahead
Guests staying at a Disney Resort hotel will be able to plan Lightning Lane passes up to 7 days in advance. Not only that but they can plan it for their whole entire trip (up to 14 days). Guests not staying at a Disney resort (and Annual Passholders) can plan up to 3 days in advance.
Disney states the advance purchase allows guests to get their plans in order with dining reservations first and then secure times for high demand attractions and experiences, all before arriving at the park. They also promise the app will be updated to make it quicker and easier to book and plan.
For guests who use the current complimentary Genie features, no fear those will still be available in My Disney Experience. These changes only truly affect Walt Disney World. Disneyland will convert to the new verbiage, however, the current purchase, selection and redemption of LL and Genie+ will remain the same.
