As I’ve mentioned before, Minnie Mouse is my fashion inspiration, I think she is fashion forward and isn’t afraid to show her style. Apparently, I am not the only one who feels this way. TInkerbell may have been the muse for a designer during London fashion week but Minnie Mouse was the muse during Toronto Fashion Week! Now, some of you may remember, I am from Toronto. I think Toronto is fabulous. Fashion is everywhere and, between shopping on Bloor Street to visiting the Bata Shoe Museum, it would be difficult to avoid it. I’ll give you a closer look at Minnie’s visit and her influence on Fashion Week.
Minnie Mouse certainly got the royal treatment, as she should, when she arrived in Toronto by having a day filled with fashionable activities with the Beckerman sisters. Minnie partook in both of the aforementioned activities and also got to visit the iconic CN tower before the Fashion Week festivities began.
During Toronto Fashion Week there was a Start Up competition where designers were to create looks inspired by our one and only favorite mouse. Six finalists were chosen from that group to create a head-to-toe look for spring/summer 2015! A panel of judges determined Sid Neigum to be the winner with his Minnie laser cut dress. His dress is a solid black dress with 1928 laser-cut nylon Minnie’s! The silhouette is simple but flattering and is most definitely my favorite.
I also enjoyed Valerie Tolila’s look which pulled inspiration from Minnie’s earlier fashions. Her hair accessory is probably one of my favorite parts about the look. It really brings together the 3 dimensional, geographic design of the circle skirt, in my opinion. Designer Eliza Faulkner rounds out my top 3 by playing on Minnie’s love of bows and her love of the color red. This look is playful and flirty and could be dressed up or down. I would totally wear any of these 3 designs.
