I have mentioned a couple of times in the last week, that I am running the Tower of Terror Ten Miler this coming weekend. As promised, I am ready to reveal my costume for the race. I’ve discussed the fact that looking the part is just as important to me as completing the race. I spent a lot of time searching for the right pieces to complete the look for my favorite villain…. Cruella De Vil. I absolutely adore Cruella De Vil! She has a certain sense of style that can’t be denied. In honor of this sense of style, I’ll now reveal the overall look I’ve put together.
As I’ve said, I wanted something functional but fun. Anyone that has a run a Run Disney event knows that there are all sorts of tutu’s running about. I like tutu’s. They are both of the things I was looking for. I found a fabulous store on Etsy where I had a custom tutu made that was Cruella inspired. I adore it. HandpickedHandmade is the name of the Etsy store and Jessica has over 300 items for sale, including tutus. She is super helpful and makes a good quality product. I’m thrilled with the results. If you are looking for a tutu or other fun handmade dress or hat, check out her store.
I decided that the tutu wasn’t quite enough to give the full effect I was looking for and I needed something with a pop of color. Leg and arm sleeves are another popular item you see at Run Disney events. I managed to find an Etsy store Run Alice Run that has custom made leg and arm sleeves that fit to your precise measurements. Katie was prompt and courteous and made some killer Cruella leg sleeves that I am super psyched to wear. If you have a vision of what you want, don’t be afraid to ask. That’s what I did and I couldn’t be happier with the result. Katie has generously offered to give a 10% discount to anyone who places an order and uses the discount code DisneyFashionista now through 12/31/14!
When it comes to makeup, I know most people don’t want to have too much on their face when it comes to a long run… especially in Florida in October! I am using eye makeup only from MAC, which I find holds up very well, and keeping it simple but striking. Strong brows and red lips are essential in this look.
To finish off the look, I am tossing around two ideas for hair. In a perfect world, I would wear a wig or dye/spray paint my hair for the event. That’s not practical for me in October in Florida for 10 miles. Therefore, I’ve decided that a headband in either red or Dalmatian spots is the direction I will take. Which do you all think would look best??
I think I’ve done a good job in putting together a costume that is a good mix of fun, functional and villainous! I can’t wait to see what everyone else has put together. If anyone sees me at the event, please stop by, say hi and show me how you look the part!! Are you running the Tower of Terror Ten Miler? If you are, let me know what you are wearing in the comment section below!
