Four Flamingos, A Richard Blais Florida Kitchen officially opened yesterday but I had the honor of attending the media preview on Thursday with fellow Disney Fashionista writer, Allegra!
The restaurant is Richard Blais’ (the first winner of Bravo’s Top Chef All-Stars) first Florida restaurant. It is located at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress and has a vintage Florida vibe. Even the gorgeous glassware looks vintage! According to Chef Blais, “it should look like something from your grandmother’s home.” The menu, on the other hand, is anything but vintage with its innovative drinks, appetizers, and main courses of surf and turf that focus on fresh Florida flavors. Some of them include fun liquid nitrogen effects too!
First, we got an overview of the unique cocktails that are almost too pretty to drink!
We then sampled some of the delicious appetizers like this Florida Shrimp with guava and horseradish cocktail. The shrimp were huge!
Next, we tried the Conch Hushpuppies with curry and honey and the Coconut Shrimp Toast with chili and green onion (this was our favorite!).
Then came the Ice Cold Oysters and Pearls with hibiscus hot sauce. The pearls were actually ice cream that had been in liquid nitrogen (similar to Dippin Dots). Now, I’m not usually a fan of oysters but add ice cream and I’m in!
Here are a few dishes that we didn’t try but that will be featured on the menu. I can’t wait to go back and try some!
Linguine & Conch with chilies and miso butter
Tuna Tostones with passion fruit yolk
Fish and Grits with banana leaf tamale and cha ca sauce
Dry Aged Beef Ribeye 22oz “Thor’s Hammer” with jalapeno chimichurri
Grilled Collard Greens
We didn’t get to experience dessert but it will include items like Key Lime Blossom, Passion Fruit Flan, and Chocolate Banana Caviar. They all sound delicious!
