Raya and the Last Dragon is scheduled to be released in theaters on March 5! Or, if you are like me and still wary of heading to a movie theater, it will also be available on Disney+ for a fee. There is less than a month to go until its premiere so it’s time to start a countdown! In anticipation of the film’s long-awaited release, there are some upcoming special Raya and the Last Dragon offerings at Animal Kingdom!
At the Discovery Island Stage near Flame Tree BBQ, you can watch artists carving a 40 ton sand sculpture. The sculpture will be based on the film’s characters and the land Kumandra. They started carving on February 19 and finish on February 21. If you aren’t able to get to Animal Kingdom during that time, the sand sculpture will be there throughout March. I plan to make it my first stop the next time I visit Animal Kingdom!
After you check out the sand sculpture, you can take the train to Rafiki’s Planet Watch and head over to The Animation Experience At Conservation Station for an animation lesson! Starting February 22, you can learn how to draw Raya and the Last Dragon characters. You will also learn a bit about one of the film’s main characters, Tuk Tuk. I’ve never participated in the animation experience at this location so I plan on checking this out too!
