I don’t know how many of you know this but I am Canadian. I am crazy proud of that fact and, though I love living and working in the United States, I still refer to Toronto as home. For me, the fact that Star Wars was one of the stars of Toronto Fashion Week… well, that’s the perfect mix.
Last year, Minnie Mouse was the Disney twist on Toronto’s Fashion Week. There was even a design competition that took place! With all the buzz over the new Star Wars film releasing shortly, it is no real surprise that Star Wars is the talk of the town at this year’s event. The competition was on this year as well, as Disney Consumer Products, in partnership with the Mercedes-Benz Start Up Competition, hosted a Star Wars-inspired design competition where six finalists were asked to create a look inspired by Star Wars.
I am not going to lie, I am not the biggest Star Wars fan…. however, I can behind many of these looks! The Princess Leia look ,with that iconic white dress, is something I would totally wear! I throw an Oscar party every year and that dress is red carpet ready. Not to mention the gold dress with chain mail front…. AH! I would kill to wear that! Who doesn’t love a look created with neoprene and chain mail? It looks like something I would see on Project Runway (one of my favorite shows). It is the Darth Vader look and he would be proud!
José Manuel St-Jacques and Simon Bélanger of UNTTLD were named the winner for their Princess Leia-inspired look from Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. I told you it was a knock out!
What do you think of the designs? Would you have chosen a different winner? Let us know what you think in the comment box below!
