This Disney Fashionista is counting down the days to the 9th annual Her Universe Fashion Show! This is one of my favorite events every year but this year it is all about Disney. I was lucky enough to sit down and talk to Her Universe founder, Ashley Eckstein, this week to discuss some of the things we can expect!
I started by congratulating Ashley on the 9th annual! Disney Fashionista celebrates our 9th anniversary this Fall and I feel like we grew up together! It’s been a thrill to see Her Universe grow into the incredible community it has become!
I had to start with the obvious question… what could she tell us about her look?! Ashley told me that she likes for her look to be the first of its kind (think back to the infamous Lego gown)! This year the gown combines couture fashion with technology and it also happens to be Disney!
A question I was dying to know the answer to was next on my list. What is her favorite look of all the ones she’s had? She was clear that they are all special in different ways. However, the Lego dress is near and dear to her heart. It looked so elegant and it was so special to be able to work with Lego Master Nathan Sawaya and designer Andrew MacLaine.
Rumor has it that there are lots of surprises in store and I had to ask Ashley if she could share anything in particular. Apparently, there is a whole lobby experience celebrating the Nightmare Before Christmas! The film is celebrating its 30th anniversary! Fashionistas can show up at 11 am and get a wristband (so they don’t need to stand in line all day). After they receive their wristband, they can go through this Nightmare Before Christmas experience. I’m picturing the experiences they have at D23 Expo and I am here for it!
Fashionistas attending the fashion show will want to stay for the whole thing to experience the giveaways and prizes. New products will be debuted, including surprises that fans have absolutely no idea about! During intermission, while the judges are deliberating, there are going to be epic prizes for the audience!
Ashley will be cohosting the Her Universe Fashion Show with Broadway Star Michael James Scott. While talking to Ashley about her cohost, I learned that they have actually known each other since childhood! They went to the same high school and were in the theater program together! Ashley said that when the two of them come together, it is energy that combusts. I, for one, cannot wait to see this energy on stage!
I asked if there would be any new Her Universe collections revealed at the show, as we’ve seen in the past. Ashley told me that there will be a mini fashion show at the very beginning, showcasing Her Universe and Hot Topic designs. The Her Universe Community and Hot Topic influencers will be walking the runway. It’s always so special to see the community come together at this event.
Finally, I asked what the theme of the collection would be for the winners of this year’s show. I knew I was pushing my luck when I asked but I had to try! This will, of course, be a special announcement during the show so stay tuned. I will be there, sharing all of the news on our social media accounts.
