One of the highlights of D23 Expo, for this fashionista, was talking all things Loungefly with the people that are in the know! For this Loungefly-obsessed fashionista, it was a dream come true!
The VP of creative at Loungefly, Liz DeSilva, and the Director of Marketing & Social at Loungefly, Ilana McBride, took the time to chat with me and answer all my questions! Okay, maybe not all of my questions, but that would have taken all weekend! I learned about the creative process and so much more and I’m here to share it with you!
Let me start by saying there are videos on our Youtube channel HERE of the time spent with these lovely ladies and, if you want to be part of the fun, you will want to check them out! You can see how much fun we truly had!
When I first arrived at the Loungefly booth, I noticed the Stitch Shoppe ensemble that Liz was wearing. It was the new Hocus Pocus merchandise from Stitch Shoppe by Loungefly! We looked at all the details of the dress and petted the bag. Yes. It’s a furry Thackery Binx bag. I loved it so much, I bought the outfit when I got home.
While talking about the look, we learned that each silhouette from Stitch Shoppe is named after someone that has touched the company. The Lizzie style is named after Liz! How cool is that?
Liz discussed the functionality of the novelty bags created for Stitch Shoppe and Loungefly. Have you ever noticed that they are extremely well thought out? That’s no accident! We looked at the new Ice Cream bag and saw how there are 2 compartments, for ease of use, and also that you can just make it one large compartment so you can even hold a water bottle inside! I never would have noticed! That’s brilliant. We actually took the bag and showed it in the video!
We also learned that the incredible pins that come with the Stitch Shoppe fashions are unique. In fact, the artwork is done in house and isn’t available anywhere else! Pin collectors beware! Don’t trade these beauties for a regular pin!
While looking at Ilana’s Mickey Pilot bag (one of the fab items you can grab on Amazon now), we learned about the design process and some fun facts we didn’t know. Did you know that you are not allowed to have a character wear another character? This bag has Mickey wearing a pilot’s cap with Donald on it. Special permission from the Disney Archives was required to make this mini collection! If you think about it, we don’t usually see a character wearing an image of another character on Disney licensed merchandise. I’m thinking all the way back to the late 80’s when Figment wore a Mickey tee!
One of my main questions for the ladies was about what is coming! I mean, don’t we all want to prepare our wallets for upcoming awesomeness? At that moment, we learned about the new Sadness Cosplay bag coming and we were even able to break the news! Fun fact- that night I was able to attend a VIP Loungefly party and saw the bag in person! Sadness is actually wearing a sweater… an actual sweater! The details are ridiculous! She will be exclusive to Loungefly.com when released.
Disney Fashionista writer Lindsay is obsessed with Disney Fairies and I had to ask if we would be getting a bag with ALL the fairies. I was shocked to hear it’s already in the works! It will be a retailer exclusive (no clue which shop, as they were unable to tell us) but woohoo! I know many of us are looking forward to that!
An interesting fact that I was not aware of is that sometimes a character, even though it seems obvious it would be timely, isn’t able to be the star of a bag or collection. It may be out of the scope of the Loungefly/Disney contract at that time. So, if Loungefly isn’t making a collection you think should exist, it’s probably because of that or another reason they are unable. Good to know! Please don’t break any contracts! We need our Loungefly fix!
We asked about a rumor we had heard and got the straight-up answer. We had heard that Stitch Shoppe will be making jewelry and we wanted the low down. Not true, fashionistas! In fact, Ilana commented they are more likely to make socks before jewelry. Take that as you will!
When wrapping up, what felt like, the incredibly short time we had together (there’s never enough time to talk with fabulous people) we learned that there are incredible things coming in 2023. In fact, Ilana called them insane! Things that no one has seen before. Styles no one has seen before. Functionality you didn’t even know needed! The creative team has gone above and beyond and I am here for it!
What kinds of things would you ask the lovely minds at Loungefly if you were talking all things Loungefly?
