Her Universe Star Wars: The Force Awakens New Collection

With the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakes, fashion designers across the scene have awakened their inner Rebel to launch new lines, paying homage to the saga. Her Universe has always been on trend when it comes to Star Wars fashion and this new line inspired by The Force Awakens in no different. Ashley Eckstein actually talked a little bit about this collection when we had the opportunity to interview her last summer. It’s so exciting to finally see it!

The collection was designed by the two winners of the Her Universe Fashion Show at last year’s San Diego Comic-Con, Kelly Cercone (Judge’s Winner) and Leetal Platt (Audience Winner) in partnership with Her Universe’s Ashley Eckstein and Hot Topic.

Mixing iconic Star Wars motifs with modern cuts and styles, this line really hit it out of the galaxy. Designs range from casual everyday jackets and cardigans, to full blown night-out looks. Show your Star Wars fever wherever you go! The collection is available now in all sizes online, and at select Hot Topic stores.

Storm Trooper Dress

“The new stormtrooper design was instantly iconic, and my eye was very drawn to the helmet … We chose scuba because the fabric has a lot of shape to it, making the dress more structural, standing away from the body like armor would.” – Kelly Cercone (2015 Her Universe Fashion Show Judges Winner)

Rebel Jacket front Reb Jacket

“Like in the movie, the organic nature of Finn’s feels like a deliberate contrast from Phasma and the rest of the First Order, though still living in the same realm. We like that it’s still tough yet has a feeling of warmth to it. We also like the idea of having a piece in the collection acting as a uniform or a team jacket for the Rebellion, like a badge of pride type of piece.” – Leetal Platt (2015 Her Universe Fashion Show Audience Winner)

Rey Cardigan

“Rey’s costume immediately called for drape and the sleeves made us want it to be a sweater. We thought if the fronts were long, they could be crossed and the front, paired with a belt, and also serve as coplay, so, double duty!” – Leetal Platt (2015 Her Universe Fashion Show Audience Winner)

BB8 Dress

“For BB-8 I was very inspired by vintage (1950’s) dresses. The hip details were perfect for facilitating a nipped waist and full hem while directly referencing his character design. We loved the idea of having a belt, of having matching accessories in general, which was much more common in vintage dresses. The 3D buckle being his ‘eye’ is a cute throwback that also helps create the visual illusion of the dress being BB-8’s body. The Jacquard was another special touch, the raised pattern adds texture and is modeled after his markings.” – Kelly Cercone (2015 Her Universe Fashion Show Judges Winner)

Black jacket front Black jacket

“The stormtrooper armor and Phasma’s imposing attitude worked well for a jacket, and complex style lines really look good on leather or pleather.” – Leetal Platt (2015 Her Universe Fashion Show Audience Winner)

Dark Side Dress

“We wanted to bring in the pilot’s flight suits as a universal appreciation for the rebellion. The design of the vest and panel were plenty obvious, but we had fun translating it with modern fabrications like embroidery and stitching.” – Leetal Platt (2015 Her Universe Fashion Show Audience Winner)
 Rebel White Dress
“We wanted to bring in the pilot’s flight suits as a universal appreciation for the rebellion. The design of the vest and panel were plenty obvious, but we had fun translating it with modern fabrications like embroidery and stitching.” – Leetal Platt (2015 Her Universe Fashion Show Audience Winner)

Star Wars Leggings

“When I first saw that brief clip in the trailer of Phasma walking down a hall I got the chills. The power in her was inspiring and I wanted to capture some of that in something that was very wearable. I chose leggings because I’m a bit obsessed with them, but also because they felt like a nice compliment to Leetal’s Phasma jacket; top and bottom becoming a suit of armor for the modern fangirl.” – Kelly Cercone (2015 Her Universe Fashion Show Judges Winner)

The collection is available now in all sizes online, and at select Hot Topic stores.

What are you favorite styles from the new collection? Personally, I love Rey’s cardigan, but I would love to hear your thoughts. Let me know in the comments.
