We have all been anxiously awaiting news of The Most Magical Place On Earth re-opening, and Walt Disney World Resort’s Re-Opening Proposal gives us hope! This proposal was submitted today and contains information about the phased reopening of the Walt Disney World Resort theme parks!
The proposal states that Magic Kingdom Park and Disney’s Animal Kingdom will begin a phased reopening to the general public on July 11th. EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios will then reopen on July 15th.
Health and safety protocols will be a part of this reopening to keep both Guests and Cast Members safe. There will be plenty of signage to help everyone follow these new protocols. Guests arriving at the parks will be informed about these new protocols before entering the parks and again once inside the parks. Protocols will include required face coverings for both Guests and Cast Members while on property, additional hand washing and sanitizing stations, and physical barriers at locations inside the parks where social distancing can’t be maintained like retail and food and beverage locations.
In addition, there will be physical distancing and a reduction in capacity of the parks, restaurants, stores, and transportation methods like buses and monorails. Backstage areas will also be modified to allow for social distancing. In order to maintain proper social distancing, parades, fireworks, and other crowd-creating events will be temporarily suspended.
In order to help limit park capacity, a new theme park reservation system will be implemented. This system will require Guests to make a reservation for park entry in advance. Because of this, new ticket sales and Disney Resort hotel reservations are being temporarily paused. Since park reservations will be limited and subject to availability, this will allow Guests with existing tickets and reservations to be a priority. Guests with existing tickets along with Annual Passsholders will be allowed to request reservations in phases, and this will occur before new tickets are sold. If this applies to you, you will be contacted soon with additional information. Once all of these phases are complete, new ticket sales and hotel reservations will begin. We look forward to more information about this reservation process soon!
The parks will be kept even cleaner than normal with extra cleaning of high-touch surfaces. Both Guests and Cast Members will undergo temperature checks. Guests will have their temperatures checked at the main entrances to the parks using 3rd party contactless handheld device screening. Cast Members will have on-site checks along with daily at-home health assessment and temperature checks before coming on property.
There will also be limited contact between Cast Members and Guests. Contactless payments like MagicBands, Apple Pay and Google Pay will be available along with cashless transactions at restaurants and stores. Mobile ordering at food and beverage locations will be widened, and high-touch experiences including Character meets, makeover experiences, and playgrounds will be temporarily suspended.
Disney Vacation Club members will still be able to make new hotel reservations, and Disney Vacation Club Resorts at Walt Disney World along with Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground will reopen to both members and Guests beginning on June 22nd! Disney Vacation Club properties in Vero Beach, Florida and Hilton Head, South Carolina will open June 15th! Heath and safety protocols will be implemented in these phased reopening also.
Even with all of these new health and safety protocols in place, the Walt Disney World Resort will be absolutely magical! I can’t wait to get back to my second home, so I am very excited about the Walt Disney World Resort’s Re-Opening Proposal! For more information, check out the article on Disney Parks Blog HERE!
