I don’t know about all of you but I am crazy excited for the opening of Pandora- The World of Avatar. There are a lot of people that aren’t excited, stating that it has nothing to do with Disney. This is what I think about that…. it’s true that it is not Disney related but isn’t Disney about the magic and the wonder? Being mesmerized by what Walt and his Imagineers were/are able to create and achieve? I feel like Pandora falls right in line with that. On that note, you will be in awe over the new merchandise for Pandora- The World of Avatar!
According to Disney Parks Blog, creative collaboration was key to creating this new merchandise and I think you can see why! Casey Jones, Senior Character Artist with Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media Creative Group, had this to say about the new merchandise:
“I was responsible for illustrations and toy designs while serving as gatekeeper for all the art used on merchandise,” explained Casey. “The most exciting aspect of my role was partnering with talented and creative individuals at Walt Disney Imagineering and Lightstorm Entertainment. Together, we designed products that complement a visually stunning world filled with floating mountains, bioluminescent plants, and all kinds of immersive adventure.”
As I look at the merchandise created above, I am in love with the vivid colors and I cannot wait to use my fastpass for this attraction on opening weekend! I see the tote bag or the artwork coming home with me!
The main store for merchandise is Windtraders which is located on Pandora. Shoppers will find several distinct art styles on the various merchandise.
Dylan Cole, Co-Production Designer for the upcoming “Avatar” motion picture sequels, captured the bioluminescent world of Pandora at night with two new pieces. One image was inspired by the Na’vi River Journey (which is the attraction I am most excited to see). The other pictures the beautiful Valley of Mo’ara. I clearly need to watch the film again before I head to Animal Kingdom because my memory is lapsing! In addition to being available as prints, elements from his nighttime artwork were added to apparel, home décor, accessories and other products. More of Dylan’s work is found on the Countdown to Pandora pin collection that was released this spring.
Did you notice the cave painting art on some of the merchandise? The cave painting art was based on sketches by Walt Disney Imagineer Joe Rohde (I love this guy!!) for the Avatar Flight of Passage attraction. Casey worked with Joe to finish out his sketches, which were then applied to select products.
Casey explored different stylizations of the Shaman of Songs from the Na’vi River Journey attraction, the attraction I am most excited about.
“[The Shaman of Songs] embodies the Na’vi’s connection to nature which is displayed through music and light, so we wanted a graphic that was evocative of those ideas,” said Casey.
Artist Daphne Yap, a member of the “Avatar” film production team, created gorgeous digital renderings of Na’vi weavings and Banshee totems for Walt Disney Imagineering. I love the hand drawn feel to this merchandise and the white tank is stunning!
There are also patch designs representing different experiences guests will have while visiting Pandora. Patches are very in right now, as is evidenced by the new patch work designs in the upcoming Disney x Coach Outlet Collection! Guests will find select patch designs in the Intergalactic Passport Kit from Alpha Centauri Expeditions. The kit includes a passport, three sticker pages, a button, and a photo ID badge. This item, along with the Na’vi Translator Device, are perfect for exploring Pandora.
