Ashley Eckstein is becoming quite the household name in the Disney community. If you don’t know her from her voice work as Ahsoka Tano on Star Wars Rebels and Forces of Destiny, you probably know her from her clothing line Her Universe, which focuses on geek chic. And if both of those have somehow escaped your notice, chances are you’ve seen the new Magic Kingdom collection that she and Ashley Taylor just released. The first capsule was amazing, and I am eagerly awaiting the second one! But beyond being extremely talented, Ashley is just a genuinely nice person. She offered her services as a personal shopper on the weekend after Thanksgiving, and I was lucky enough to snag a spot!
I found out about this opportunity while scrolling through Instagram on Friday evening. Ashley had it posted on the Her Universe IG. (By the way, if you aren’t following her already, you should be! It’s super cool and a great source of information about her designs.) She offered two shopping experiences at the Altamonte Mall: one at Hot Topic and one at Box Lunch. These were completely free, and there was no obligation to buy anything. I chose Hot Topic because both of my children are big anime fans. Each appointment lasted about fifteen minutes and consisted of Ashley showing you around the shop and focusing on areas of your particular interest.
Ashley was extremely personable and seemed genuinely interested in helping both of my children and myself find things we loved. She helped find sizes in the designs my Littles chose and seemed absolutely delighted by my daughter’s excitement over all the anime and video game merchandise! I have met Ashley a few times at different events, and every time, she makes me feel like an old friend. Even though I was a little star-struck (big Ahsoka fan here,) I still felt more like I was shopping with a friend than a celebrity or even a personal shopper. She just has a way of putting you completely at ease. My kids, who are usually somewhat reserved, made the same observation on the way home. And my daughter, who I have tried (and failed) repeatedly to interest in Star Wars, has decided that she wants to give Star Wars Rebels a try. So thank you, Ashley!
These shopping experiences were designed to draw customers out to Hot Topic and Box Lunch for the busiest shopping weekend of the year. Ashley is an Orlando native and was in town after celebrating Thanksgiving with her family. I had an amazing time shopping with her, and I am so glad that she, Hot Topic, and Box Lunch provided this fun opportunity. I’m hoping they make this an annual event!
Are you a fan of Ashley’s work? And have you checked out the Disney sections of Hot Topic and Box Lunch? They are amazing! Let us know what you think in the comments!
