My Disney World trip planning revolves around Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. We pick our travel dates based on what works to attend at least one of the parties. Is there anything better than Disney or the holiday season? Only the two together – holidays at Disney!
Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party requires a separate ticket and offers guests the chance to celebrate the holiday season in spectacular Disney style. The party is held at the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World on select nights in November and December. Dates run as late as December 22 this year, giving travelers more chances to experience the fun. The party has special entertainment, character meet and greets, and a limited capacity to give you an awesome night of holiday fun.
The Party is scheduled for November 7, 8, 10, 11, 13, 15, 16, 27, and 29 and for December 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 9, 11, 13, 15, 16, 18, and 22 in 2016. Tickets have not been released yet, but last year’s prices began at $74 plus tax per adult and $69 plus tax per child. Advance purchased tickets were cheaper than same-day tickets by $5. Certain dates, like of those parties held during the week of Thanksgiving, were at the higher price regardless of when tickets were purchased. The very last day of the party cost $82 plus tax per adult and $77 plus tax per child. Certain dates were available at a discount to Disney Vacation Club members, annual passholders, and members of the military. While prices may increase slightly this year, 2015’s prices are a good way to plan your party budget. Tickets went on sale in April of last year, so it is expected that they will become available soon. Tickets are nonrefundable for any reason.
To ensure that you are able to attend the party, consider choosing a date in November. December dates sell out faster and parties held in the later weeks of the month typically sell out first. Many locals will attend on weekend nights, so consider going to a party on a Sunday or Tuesday night for less crowds. The capacity for this event is 25,000 compared to the maximum capacity of the Magic Kingdom, which is 80,000. Most rides remain open during party hours, so wait times will likely be shorter than those during the day. Make time for your favorite rides, but it is recommended that you prioritize experiencing the party’s special entertainment.
Mickey hosts his Christmas party at the Magic Kingdom beginning at 7 pm. Ticketholders can enter the park at 4 pm and utilize the FastPass+ system between then and the start of the party. There are no FastPass+ options available during the party itself, but it is wise to take advantage of this time to hop on some of your favorite rides before enjoying party entertainment. Limited edition party merchandise is available during the party, so those of you who collect Disney memorabilia will want to spend some time browsing the shops for T-shirts, pins, MagicBands, Vinylmation, and more. Holiday-themed treats will be sold during the party. Complimentary Christmas cookies and hot chocolate are available to keep you going through the night.
Two stage shows, Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime parade, and Holiday Wishes are huge holiday hits during Mickey’s Party. A Totally Tomorrowland Christmas is a high- energy show featuring Buzz Lightyear, Mike Wazowski, and Stitch. Audience members can sing and dance along as Stitch tries to bring Santa Claus to Tomorrowland. Celebrate the Season is a more classic holiday show, with traditional music and appearances by the fab five to get you into the holiday spirit. The Christmas parade includes characters dancing in their holiday best, fun floats, and a catchy holiday soundtrack. Holiday Wishes is the nighttime fireworks show set to Christmas music with Jiminy Cricket narrating. Celebrate the Magic, the nighttime castle projection show, adds a holiday segment for the party. A Frozen Holiday Wish decorates Cinderella Castle with icicles to make it shine through the party.
Exclusive opportunities to meet with some rare characters are a huge part of this event. The Seven Dwarves, Jack Skellington as Sandy Claws, Captain Jack Sparrow, the Country Bears, Santa Goofy, and the princes cannot be seen outside of parades normally, but they meet and take photos with guests during Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. In addition to traditional meet and greets, Club Tinsel at Cosmic Ray’s hosts a dance party where guests can interact with characters, though they will be unable to get autographs.
Additional experiences can be added on to your Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party schedule. The Wishes Dessert Party can be booked for approximately $55 per adult and $33 per child. This includes a reserved fireworks viewing area with seating, desserts, and beverages. Parents can make appointments at Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique for the Holiday Minnie package, which includes makeup, hairstyling, princess sash and cinch sack, and a holiday Minnie Mouse costume with matching headband. Packages were $149.95 plus tax in 2015. Please note that both of these experiences can be purchased for non-party nights, but the fireworks will most likely be Wishes (not Holiday Wishes). Because entry to Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party is limited, it may be easier to make appointments for transformations at Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique during party time for holiday makeovers.
You could easily fill up the hours between entering the park and the end of the party and still not see everything. With careful planning and prioritizing, there are ways to make sure you get the most of your Christmas party experience. I love Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party and I highly recommend it if you’ve never been. It is always a night to remember. I wait for it the whole year long!
Emily spends her days pretending to be a Disney princess in New York. She makes it down to Disney World every year for the holidays and soaks in enough magic to hold her over until her next trip. Emily loves fireworks, parades, and eating all the yummy food at Disney. She collects Disney Dooney and Bourke bags and the Disney-themed Alex and Ani bracelets, so she can keep a bit of magic in her life day to day.

Hi! Do you know the answer to this? I wasn’t sure from reading your post. If I have tickets to MVMCP but don’t plan to use a hopper that day, can I still book Fast Passes from 4pm on using just my MVMCP ticket? Thanks for all the useful info!
