Disney and Formula 1 are putting the pedal to the metal on their collaboration! The two brands have officially announced that their partnership will continue through 2028, and this time, a very familiar race car is joining the action. Disney and Pixar’s Cars is officially becoming part of the Disney x Formula 1 collaboration!
The announcement was made at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, where fans are getting the first look at the brand-new Disney and Pixar Cars Collection with Formula 1. The timing could not be more perfect. Cars is celebrating its 20th anniversary, and Lightning McQueen is heading to one of the most iconic racing destinations in the world to celebrate.
Lightning McQueen Is Heading to Monza
Lightning McQueen will make his Formula 1 debut during the FORMULA 1 GRAN PREMIO D’ITALIA 2026 at Monza this September.
For the special crossover, the Piston Cup champion will appear in an all-new look that brings the worlds of Cars and Formula 1 together. Considering how many Disney fans first fell in love with racing through Lightning McQueen, this collaboration feels like a natural fit.
The Monza appearance will also be one of the major celebrations surrounding the 20th anniversary of Disney and Pixar’s Cars. It has officially been two decades since Lightning McQueen first found himself in Radiator Springs and learned that there is a whole lot more to life than crossing the finish line first.
A Disney and Pixar Cars x Formula 1 Collection
Of course, we are most excited about the merchandise!
D23 attendees can get a first look at the new Disney and Pixar Cars Collection with Formula 1 at the Disney Store booth. The assortment includes six Disney Store first-to-market items, with a Disney Store exclusive pin, hat and fleece among the new styles.
Collectors will also want to keep an eye out for new Mattel die-cast vehicles inspired by the collaboration.
Even better, you do not have to be attending D23 to shop the collection. The Disney and Pixar Cars Collection with Formula 1 launched online at DisneyStore.com!
Select pieces from the collection will become more widely available beginning August 27. They will arrive at the Formula 1 Official Online Store as well as the Formula 1 Gran Premio D’Italia 2026 in Monza this September.
Between the apparel, accessories, pins and die-cast vehicles, we have a feeling both Disney collectors and Formula 1 fans are going to find plenty to add to their wish lists.
Disney x Formula 1 Is Staying Around Through 2028
The Disney and Formula 1 partnership originally launched in 2025 with Mickey & Friends at the Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix. Since then, it has continued to grow with merchandise, entertainment and special experiences around the world.
The collaboration headed to the Formula 1 Chinese Grand Prix earlier this year with original WEBTOON content, merchandise and a Formula 1 show car at Shanghai Disneyland Resort. Minnie Mouse and Daisy Duck also took center stage during the Formula 1 Grand Prix du Canada as the collaboration expanded into F1 ACADEMY.
At the Formula 1 British Grand Prix, Disney and Formula 1 teamed up with Make-A-Wish for a custom Mickey Mouse-inspired racing helmet signed by all 20 current Formula 1 drivers. The helmet ultimately sold for an incredible £151,000, or approximately $201,000, with net proceeds benefiting Make-A-Wish International.
Now, Disney and Formula 1 have confirmed that the collaboration will continue through the 2028 season. The addition of Cars also marks the first time the partnership has expanded beyond Mickey & Friends.
We cannot think of a better character to join the racing action than Lightning McQueen!
