I know that many people are glued to their televisions so they can follow every minute of Hurricane Irma. I was supposed to be there Friday, for a Disney Cruise that would have been in the Caribbean now but I know you can guess how that turned out. One of our guest writers, Kelly, is at Walt Disney World with her family, riding out the storm. We decided to share her experience with you all because Disney has definitely done all they can to make a fashionista’s experience with Hurricane Irma as good as can be!
Here is what Kelly had to say about her experience thus far at Art of Animation:
So Disney has been great! They gave us print outs on Hurricane procedures and dining adjustments. They closed both Disney Springs and the parks today(Sunday) and tomorrow (Monday), and they were closed early yesterday.
Also, they gave guests dining times (similar to a cruise ship) to help with the crowds at the only restaurant at this resort (Landscape of Flavors) to allow access to food during the storm. The staff has been cut back so the food options were “limited” but still pretty decent. For instance, breakfast was the “Bountiful Platter” which included scrambled eggs, a biscuit, potatoes, sausage and bacon. (There were also baked goods and grab and go options, but no waffles, pancakes, etc).
You will see they still tried to give people options including pizza and pasta options. Many take and go options.
The characters stationed here were Woody, Jesse, Bolt and Rafiki. They were in the lobby hanging with the guests for pictures and interacting with the guests.
The arcade was free to play for guest due to the storm and even Woody joined the fun. They also had games like “Nemo Bingo” and “Name that Tune” in the lobby.
Also, housekeeping helped everyone stock up on essentials (toilet paper, toiletries, towels, linens, coffee, etc) and handed out flashlights (just in case) yesterday since services were going to be limited to trash pickup before noon today and if you needed something, you could call them.
Disney also has been calling and leaving voicemails to give us updates on the current situation, curfews, dining, housekeeping, etc. They are offering free in room movies until further notice. It is helping make a difficult situation much more enjoyable!
It’s nice to know that no matter what the circumstance, Disney always makes guests feel special. Thanks to Kelly, our guest blogger, for sharing her experience with us! Stay safe, everyone!
Kelly is a wife and momma to two little boys. She is a lover of all things Disney and enjoys sharing that love with her little guys. She and her family live on Florida’s Space Coast and frequents the Disney parks and Disney Springs area often.
