There’s a great big, beautiful tomorrow ahead for Carousel of Progress! Disney shared exciting new details on the Disney Parks Blogs about the beloved Magic Kingdom attraction, and longtime fans have plenty to look forward to. Imagineers are now preparing a major refresh that honors Walt’s original vision while introducing new storytelling for modern audiences.
One of the biggest additions will be a Walt Disney Audio-Animatronics figure. The scene is inspired by Walt’s 1964 television special, “Disneyland Goes to the World’s Fair.” Disney also shared that Imagineers are recreating several nostalgic props from that era.
When the attraction first opened, it reflected back 60 years. After this update, the attraction scenes will also shift to new decades. Guests will visit the 1960s during the moon landing, Halloween night in the 1980s, New Year’s Eve 1999, and a futuristic finale inspired by original Disney concept art. Fans will be happy to hear that “There’s a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow” is staying. Disney confirmed the Sherman Brothers’ anthem will continue playing throughout the attraction.
This update feels like the perfect blend of nostalgia and progress. It also keeps Walt Disney’s optimistic vision alive for a whole new generation of guests. Carousel of Progress will temporarily close beginning July 6, 2026. Disney expects the attraction to reopen sometime in 2027.
