Disney style is taking a trip through the archives! Bobby Kim, VP and Global Creative Director for Disney Consumer Products, curated the collection, and each design draws inspiration from vintage Disney apparel and characters that have influenced him personally. Disney and Bobby Kim have revealed Collection 1: Classics. It is the first drop from the ongoing Disney | Bobby Kim collaboration. Kick back and enjoy as Disney and Bobby Kim celebrate the Classics with a Vintage-Inspired Collection.
The six-shirt collection was revealed Saturday, August 15. It launches exclusively on DisneyStore.com on Thursday, August 20 at 9 p.m. PT. Fans have through Sunday, August 23 to shop, while supplies last.
Mickey Mouse Magic
Two Mickey Mouse designs immediately caught my eye. The white Mickey Mouse tee features artwork Kim discovered while researching classic Mickey illustrations. Mickey wears a yellow shirt and red bow tie inside a blue oval. It has a fun vintage look that also feels incredibly wearable.
Then there is the showstopper! The black Sorcerer’s Apprentice Mickey tee takes inspiration from a rare vintage shirt Kim discovered in Harajuku. Mickey takes center stage in his famous red robe and blue sorcerer hat. Stars and Fantasia characters cover the shirt, including the sleeves. This is definitely the design I expect collectors to race for first!
Disney Renaissance Favorites
The Little Mermaid gets a colorful navy tee featuring Ariel, Ursula, King Triton, Flounder, and Sebastian. Kim shared that the 1989 film helped shape his childhood. Another childhood favorite inspired the white Oliver & Company tee. Oliver takes center stage, surrounded by some familiar four-legged friends. Kim has an especially sweet connection to this movie. Oliver & Company was the first Disney animated film he saw in theaters!
Classic Characters And A Fabulous Villain
Lady and the Tramp share an ivory tee with their sweet faces framed inside a pink circle. It is simple, classic, and absolutely adorable. Villain fans get something special, too. Scar looks especially menacing on a black Lion King tee. Shenzi, Banzai, and Ed surround him, making this one perfect for fans of Disney’s troublemakers. Kim noted that the hyenas are among his favorite Disney characters. Their humor, chaos, and personalities helped inspire this design.
A Disney Fashion Drop To Watch
I love that this collection feels like something discovered in a vintage shop instead of newly released merchandise. The graphics celebrate different Disney eras while still feeling fresh. Best of all, this is only Collection 1! The “Classics” name certainly makes me curious about what Bobby Kim and Disney have planned next.
