Although it is a bit delayed, I wanted to share our first experience with the new Boarding Group System for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance at Disney’s Hollywood Studios! Of course, since this is Disney Fashionista, I also wanted to point out some fabulous ideas for park outfits!
We drove ourselves and parked our car at Disney’s Hollywood Studios at 5:45 am on Tuesday, January 14th. The park’s official opening time was set for 7 am, so we weren’t extremely early. By 5:50 am we were through bag check and waiting in line at the touchstiles. There weren’t many people in front of us, but there were plenty behind us. I think we got there at just the right time! By 6:30 am we were through the touchstiles and officially in the park.
Cast Members allow Guests to enter the park, but stop you before you enter the “land” areas. Guests are directed to the right for Toy Story Land and to the left for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. We, of course, went left and stopped between echo lake and the For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration theatre. We were close enough to the front of the group that we could actually see the Cast Members creating the human rope! There we waited patiently until 7 am.
We were told that you may need to refresh the My Disney Experience mobile app right at 7 am, so my husband and I were both prepared. We both restarted the app just before 7. Of course, we were already connected through the Friends and Family portion of the app. Remember, you will need to get a boarding pass for your entire party at one time if you would like to ride together, and you all must be inside the park to be able to make the reservation. At 7 am, my quick fingers snagged us Boarding Group 20! Seconds later, the woman next to me announced she was Boarding Group 32. Seconds can matter with this process, so it is important to make sure you know how it works before you go if you want to get into a super early Boarding Group! I went through the process a few days before outside of the park, just to see what it was like. Obviously I couldn’t make the reservation because I had not entered the park, but I was able to see how it worked so there were no surprises!
After everyone began cheering because of their great Boarding Pass numbers, the Cast Members began slowly leading us over to Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run. I love that they do this because there isn’t any running. By 7:24 we were actually in the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon ready to pilot our mission! We then decided to explore Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge since it was our first visit. This would have been a great time to head over to Slinky Dog Dash, but we wanted to appreciate all of the Galaxy Far, Far Away! We noticed that none of the Boarding Groups had been called yet, and at 8:30 am I received a notification that the attraction was temporarily unavailable. We were still exploring, so this wasn’t an issue for us. At 8:54 am, we received a notification that our Boarding Group had been called, and we had until 10:54 to return to the entrance of the attraction. We made our way over to the attraction, and without spoiling anything, it was amazing!
Our experience was pretty perfect, but now that the Disney’s Hollywood Studios FastPass+ Tiers have changed, I think our experience could have been even more flawless! Now, Slinky Dog Dash and Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run are the only two attractions in Tier 1. This means that you can choose one of these two attractions for your Tier 1 FastPass+ and choose two of the other amazing attractions for your other selections! With this change, you can choose one of these attractions as a FastPass+ selection and then rope-drop the other, meaning your wait times for each will be significantly shorter! I am excited to see how this changes once Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance and Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway (opening March 4th) are added into Tier 1!
Now for the fashion part! There are so many incredible options for dressing the part at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, but I want to point out a few of my favorites! First, of course, is the adorable Baby Yoda Spirit Jersey. I am actually wearing it right now as I type this, and it looks like The Child is watching me type! It’s so comfy and adorable!
If you’re a fan of The Rise of Skywalker, you should definitely pick up this adorable outfit! You really can’t go wrong with leggings and a Spirit Jersey! Plus, these match perfectly!
You could even dress up a bit with this amazing Darth Vader dress from Her Universe! I love dressing up for the parks, even when it isn’t Dapper Day!
I have to say that some of my favorite pieces I saw at the parks were from the new black and white Star Wars line from Her Universe and Our Universe! These pieces perfectly represent the light and the dark side of the force, and are simply amazing! There is something for both guys and girls in this collection, and each piece is both stylish and comfy! I spotted these in both World of Disney and Star Wars Launch Bay, and we will see the entire collection online at ShopDisney.com starting January 27th!
