It’s a Whole New World of Disney!

In January of 2018, plans for a complete re-imagining of the World of Disney store in Disney Springs were announced. The store was split in half, with part open for shopping and part closed off for the remodel. The renovated section was unveiled this week and has opened to mixed reviews. While the store is definitely beautiful and upscale, many feel that it is missing the Disney magic that permeated the shop previously.

The new remodel has an open concept design with high ceilings and exposed brick-work. The floors are a mixture of hardwood and concrete tile. Each section is labeled with light bulb letters. It all combines to form a sleek, modern look that makes for easy shopping.

The characters on the ceilings and the Be Our Guest dishes behind the registers are now gone, but Disney has still found a way to add a touch of whimsy to the decor. I love the candy dishes above the sweets section!

Even though the inside (and quite a few of the outside) characters are now missing, our beloved Stitch is still reigning atop the outside entrances–and yes, he still spits!

As I talked with Cast Members about the remodel, many remarked that the “magic” wasn’t complete and more details would be added closer to the grand reveal. While I have no other details on that, I’m really looking forward to seeing the finished product. It will open in Fall of 2018.

Even those of us who miss the characters and the fun of the previous design will probably agree that the new design is clean and efficient. You can see all the way through the store, so it’s easy to find the merchandise (or family members!) you’re looking for. Once you get over the initial shock of just how different it is, you realize that it is a truly beautiful and highly functional store.

What do you think of the new design? Do you like the new, modern look or are you already missing the whimsy of the old store? We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments!
