Spaceship Earth’s reimagining was announced at last year’s D23 Expo, but the Disney Parks Blog just announced that Walt Disney Imagineering will begin this new adventure on May 26th!
Spaceship Earth will be closed beginning on May 26th while the Imagineers work their magic! Get ready to say goodbye to Spaceship Earth as you know it and say hello to a new-and-improved version! The new Spaceship Earth will have many of the same elements that we know and love, but will be even more magical! There will also be new scenes to help illustrate the evolution of humanity from prehistoric times to today!
This fabulous concept art of the Egypt scene is so exciting! As you can see, the classic bones that we are used to are still present, but they are enhanced with light! I think it is safe to assume that light is going to play a huge factor in the reimagining of this iconic attraction! It will help bring the scenes to life! The Disney Parks Blog says that, “you’ll hear new narration and see how light plays a central role in our shared human journey.”
Since Epcot is constantly evolving, just as Walt Disney always wanted, this seems like a fabulous new step into the future! This is the fourth update to the attraction since EPCOT opened in 1982, and it is definitely going to be the most ambitious! I can’t wait to see what the final product looks like! After all, I love every journey on this, our Spaceship Earth!
