Hollywood Studios recently hosted Galactic Nights, a one-night, separately-ticketed event dedicated to all things Star Wars. Having been a Star Wars fan for basically my entire life, I was beyond excited to attend this event! Just like with the Halloween and Christmas parties that take place at the Magic Kingdom, guests could enter the park at 4:00 but the festivities didn’t really start until 7:00. Upon entering, I was given my party swag: a special scavenger hunt lanyard, a Solo pin (although these were not exclusive to party guests,) and an event guide. The lanyard served as party identification, and by 5:30, I was being asked to show it before entering shops or certain areas of the park.
Photo ops representing different places in the Star Wars saga were set up throughout the park. For added fun, several of the locations were part of a scavenger hunt which offered stickers for your lanyard.
Character greets are always a highly anticipated part of any Disney event. In addition to the Star Wars characters found on a regular park day, K-2S0, Seventh Sister, Captain Phasma, and Tusken Raiders all held intermittent meet and greets as well.
The specialty themed foods at this event were some of the best I’ve had! There were even a few vegan and vegetarian options. The Vegan Blue Curry was absolutely amazing, and I seriously debated ordering a second helping. Other tempting choices included Cheese Grits with Crawfish, Loaded Red Curry Duck Fries, Pork Wings with Blueberry Slaw, and a Crab Duo among others. My love affair with sweets was totally indulged with the array of treats available. My favorite of the night was the mini éclair trio; the coffee one was especially delicious, and the lightsaber one was intricately decorated. The Millennium Falcon was hard to beat in terms of decoration though; I mean, a Falcon glow cube? Sign me up!! The churros were probably the most popular item of the evening. They provided both a yummy treat and a fun photo op at the same time!
Fan-built droids took over Animation Courtyard, and they were fabulous! I loved interacting with them and seeing the smiles and wonder on the faces of the children (of all ages.) There was even a “Fashionista” droid!
The highlight of my evening was a merchandise signing with Ashley Eckstein of the Her Universe clothing brand. She also voices Ahsoka Tano of Star Wars Rebels. Ashley was at the event to promote her new motivational book. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting her a few times before, and she really does have the kindness of a Disney princess.
Event exclusive merchandise was limited to a trading pin, water bottle, and tee. The same logo appeared on all the merchandise. Solo was heavily featured in the logo since it had only been released a few days prior to Galactic Nights.
And of course, you can’t have a special event without entertainment! “A Galaxy Far, Far Away” was performed several times during the night and even included a few new scenes from Solo! The Tower of Terror became a projection screen for “Galactic Destinations” and Storm Troopers periodically marched through the streets. There were also panel discussions with Warwick Davis and Joonas Suotamo, actors in the Star Wars saga. And for those of us who are super excited about Galaxy’s Edge, the Star Wars themed area coming to Hollywood Studios next year, there was even a panel discussion highlighting the development of that! Even Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster got in on the fun with a temporary Star Wars overlay and music. The night ended with a presentation of “A Galactic Spectacular,” the Star Wars themed firework show.
While I enjoyed Galactic Nights immensely, it made me realize how much I miss Star Wars Weekends from several years ago. It also made me look forward even more to the opening of Galaxy’s Edge! I can’t wait to completely immerse myself in the Star Wars world! Until then, may the force be with you!
