The Painter of Light meets the Mistress of Evil. Sometimes the best artwork comes from two entities that typically appear complete opposites. That is the case with the new Thomas Kincade Studios “Maleficent” painting.
This limited edition new release is vibrant with color. See a victorious Maleficent celebrate from her castle turret as the spell falls upon Sleeping Beauty and several members of the kingdom. Maleficent’s faithful Raven is shown midair to reach his power mistress. The stark contrast between the light of King Stefan’s kingdom and the darkness of Maleficent’s lair is captured in this vibrant artwork.
I love the humor in this picture as King Stefan and King Hubert clumsily slumber against each other. The rotund King Hubert’s hands rest upon what appears to be a full belly based on the food scattered about. The three fairy Godmothers, Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather, flit around trying to break the spell and save Sleeping Beauty.
I love the meaningful touches such as the rose bushes climbing Aurora’s turret. These flowers give a nod to her pseudo name, Briar Rose, a moniker given to her as she was in hiding from the evil Mistress. Again you can see the battle of good versus evil, in the illumination of her resting face while in a deep sleep from the villain’s evil spell.
The Thomas Kincade Studios have such amazing collector’s pieces of Disney scenes. This Maleficent depiction is certainly no exception! You can purchase the limited edition where the Painter of Light meets the Mistress of Evil HERE!
