A new documentary series is coming to Disney+ and I am so looking forward to this one! One Day at Disney will let fans go behind the scenes to meet the people who make the magic across the globe. Not only will the series be available for streaming, but the stories of these individuals will also be included in the One Day at Disney book.
One Day at Disney will launch with a feature-length documentary and then each week, a new episode highlighting one of the members of the book will air.
During the One Day at Disney panel at the D23 Expo, creators and Disney Cast Members discussed not only working on the series but what it means to them to be a Disney Cast Member. The panel started with Wendy Lefkon talking about the concept for this project and just how involved all the Disney teams needed to be in order to pull it off.
“This image gives us an idea of the breadth of the project,” Lefkon said.
In order to create the book, 76 photo shoots took place around the world on the same day; February 21, 2019. As you can imagine, assembling 76 different teams to be available on the exact same day was quite the undertaking. The date was actually decided by the press junket for Captain Marvel, as Brie Larson is one of the highlights of the book and series.
Author Bruce Steele interviewed every single person for the book; 79 interviews over the course of a month in order to write a profile of each of the people in the book.
And speaking of those people in the book – let’s take a look at some of these folks, shall we? Six panelists were on hand at the event to discuss their experience with the project and their jobs with Disney.
Kristina Dewberry manages construction site logistics and ensures the operational safety and efficiency of sites across the Disneyland Resort. She was the construction manager for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. When asked what her favorite things about Galaxy’s Edge were, Kristina said she loves the Marketplace and the Creature Stall. But beyond the shopping, Kristina had a more personal note to add.
“The amazing and overwhelming reaction of the fans and to see how much it means to you,” she told the crowd. “Every day is different for me and I love that.”
Chris Cristi is the evening AIR7 HD helicopter reporter for ABC7 Eyewitness News. Chris shared what it’s like to report from the sky.
“It is sometimes magic at the end of the day when you think about how we deliver live breaking news,” Chris said. “It’s a unique place to work, to say the least,” he went on to say.
As Eric Goldberg walked onto the D23 stage, he was introduced as one of our top animation talents of our generation. When asked about his favorite character to animate, Eric recalled a fan favorite.
“The favorite character that I’ve helped create has to be the Genie. That was my first Disney gig was animating the Genie in Aladdin…what a great opportunity to work with the great Robin Williams,” Eric said. He also discussed his fondness for working with the one and only, Mickey Mouse and described the honor as “being handed the keys to the castle.”
“Disney means a lot to me,” Eric said. “Walt was always part of our lives and the spirit of animation always excited me….Our films are part of the popular culture around the world and that’s a big deal.”
Candice Valdez is an on-air radio personality for Radio Disney. Candice said that her favorite part of the job was bringing smiles to peoples faces every day. She also went on to say how honored and shocked she was to be chosen for the One Day at Disney project.
When asked about a memorable interview, Candice described her meeting with Pharrell Williams. “He is literally one of the coolest people on the planet,” she said.
Este Meza has an envious job with Disney. He gets to work with Droids all day! “Any chance I get to hang out with BB8 in the hallway is always a good one,” Este said.
BB8 even made a special on-stage appearance to show off just how cool Este’s job really is!
These are just a handful of the folks who will be highlighted for their work on screen and on the page with One Day at Disney. I for one, can’t wait to tune in and read up about all the amazing work that takes place behind the scenes throughout the Disney company.
