For me, the beginning of the Halloween season is always the first Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party, so I officially began my spooky time last Friday night! This year’s party was a little bit different from past year’s in terms of entertainment, but it was still quite the treat!
Party Entrance
Party guests can enter the Magic Kingdom starting at 4:00, even though the party doesn’t officially start until 7. Festively dressed Cast Members guide you to a special “Party Trail” where you have fun photo ops, a small selection of merchandise, and your first trick-or-treat station!
Photo Ops
There are plenty of magic shots available all over Magic Kingdom. I love the poison apple shot! Look for photopass photographers all along the hub, around Be Our Guest restaurant, and around Haunted Mansion for some super cool magic shots. Keep checking your Memory Maker for several days after the party. New pictures from the Not So Scary Party are still appearing on my app which leaves me hopeful that my Haunted Mansion pics will show up soon!
Party Treats
Party food is something I get excited about every year! There were a few new offerings this year, and I chose to try the Jack and Sally push pops, the frozen apple cider, and the Constance’s For Better or Worse Wedding Cake. The Sally push pop is gluten free–yay!! The wedding cake was probably the most sought-after dessert of the whole night. It was offered exclusively at a popcorn cart in Liberty Square which also carried one of the four Haunted Mansion ghost treat holders. Since both in-demand items were at one small cart, the lines consistently stayed long. I’m hoping Disney starts offering them at multiple places for future parties. The Mickey o’Lantern popcorn bucket also drew large crowds, and you can see why–it’s adorable! It is available at the popcorn stand between the castle and Tomorrowland.
Entertainment
The Hocus Pocus Villains Spelltacular is a fan favorite! It consistently draws large crowds at each showing. I recommend watching the midnight show. It leaves your party hours free for other activities and allows the crowds leaving the park to clear out a bit. It’s a fun show featuring not only the Sanderson sisters but also many of our favorite villains. It’s a must-see show!
Hallowishes, one of my all-time favorite night-time shows, was replaced this year by Disney’s Not So Spooky Spectacular. The castle graphics are amazing and tell the story of Mickey and his friends trick-or-treating through a haunted house. Although the fireworks can be seen throughout the park, this show is best enjoyed on Main Street due to the laser projections on the castle.
Mickey’s Boo-to-You Parade is always a highlight of my Not So Scary Party time! I sing the song incessantly for days afterwards. Our classic floats and characters got a few new friends this year! The Bride from the Haunted Mansion joined the ghostly dancers, and Pixar got several new floats featuring the Incredibles, Buzz Lightyear, and the Toy Story Aliens.
One often over-looked bit of entertainment is Carlotta. She appears in front of the Haunted Mansion and is hilarious! Enjoy her ramblings and guest interactions while you’re waiting to enter the attraction.
Merchandise
Shopping is always a big part of my party experience! The party merch this year is heavily focused on Hocus Pocus although Mickey and Minnie are still on many pieces. The party merch debuts at The Emporium around 3:00 in a special roped-off area in the center room. Guests must show either their wristband or party ticket on the app in order to enter the area. If you would like to see all of the party merch, you can check it out HERE. If you would like to treat yourself to some of this fabulous merchandise but won’t be attending the party, check out shopthemeparks.com. She brings the magic to you!
Even though the party lasts five hours, there is almost no way to do everything! There are special character greets, dance parties, and attraction overlays that I never made it to. Disney definitely packs a lot into these parties!
