Books are truly magical! They allow the readers’ imaginations to run wild and go to places that they have never and will never visit in real life. They are also filled with wisdom, knowledge, happiness, and so much more. The books we read as young people help form our personalities and attitude. Several options are available for teens to explore and learn from. With time, they might even find that these publications have become their friends. Since reading is one of the most important habits that one can form during their adolescence, it is only right that you find some of the best paperbacks to get you started on your reading journey. Here is a comprehensive list of the seven best publications that every teenager must read.

  1. Fahrenheit 451

Regarded to be one of the best novels by Ray Bradbury, the paperback was published in 1953. Even though the novel came out over 70 years ago, the social and political probe remains relevant even today. It portrays an American society in which every paperback if found, is burned right away. The title itself refers to the temperature at which paper catches fire. There is a lot to be learned from Fahrenheit 451 and its main protagonist Guy Montag who makes it his life mission to preserve literature. In an interview, Bradbury revealed that he wrote this work amidst the threat of book burning in the United States.

 2. Harry Potter

Harry Potter is one of the most popular names in English Literature and rightfully so. Written by British author J.K. Rowling, the series consists of seven novels that chronicle the life of a wizard along with his friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. The story of his struggle with Lord Voldemort is one that children love since it encompasses several human emotions, including strength and valor. The series has since been adapted into a major Hollywood production and many live-action games and plays have originated since. The narration that includes drama, fantasy, and coming of age is one that readers worldwide have loved.

3. To kill a mockingbird

Teenagers in high school will surely love this masterpiece written by Harper Lee. It is a short manuscript, so one should be able to complete it fast enough. The novel revolves around social and racial injustice and is narrated through the eyes of a six-year-old girl. With her powerful narration, Lee is able to tug on everyone’s heartstrings and inspire them to empathize with the minority. She shows a community in which prejudice is rife and where people are prematurely judged by the color of their skin. At a time where the BLM movement is stronger than ever, this writing helps bring to light the nature of white supremacy.

4. The Intelligent Investor

Written by Benjamin Graham, the man who taught Warren Buffet all about investing, comes this paperback that lays a framework for beginners on how to start investing their money. Money making and saving skills are critical for adolescents so that they can learn to manage their finances better in the upcoming future. Many financial concepts have been explained in a comprehensive manner, which should be very beneficial to teenagers. This can be one of the starter paperbacks for teenagers to learn about handling their finances and where they can start investing their hard-earned money.

5. Diary of a Young Girl

This is a heartbreaking account that chronicles the life of Anne Frank, a 13-year-old Jewish girl, and her family as they went into hiding during the Nazi occupation in 1945. Frank kept a diary throughout their struggle for escaping their inevitable future. Her family succeeded in hiding for over two years but were eventually found. Frank died of typhus in a concentration camp in 1945. By reading through her diary, one can see how her mind matured from that of a carefree teen to that of an imprisoned individual due to the stress of being found. Her recordings offer a fascinating observation of human courage.

6. Boundaries

Written by Dr. Henry Cloud and Dr. John Townsend, Boundaries is a powerful copy that helps explain the concept of building boundaries for adolescents. As a maturing individual, it is of utmost importance that they learn how to create strong boundaries to protect themselves from bad things. Whether it be a physical barrier to keep people away or a mental barrier to protect their mental space, it is best if an individual reads through the pages of this paperback to learn how to internalize and understand these concepts.

7. I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings

I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings is a beautifully written memoir by writer Maya Angelou. With her beautiful storytelling abilities, Angelou introduces people to her childhood and how she was brought up. Her earlier years were quite tragic and heartbreaking, but she showed spirit and optimism to get through all that. The paperback is a testament to the fact that people get stronger and can handle anything that life throws at them. This inspiring paperback stirs positivity in the hearts of people and gets them moving towards the better things in life.

Since the beginning of time, written art has been making our lives better providing us with much-needed knowledge and entertainment. Whether you are an avid reader or one who is just starting to love paperbacks, these writings can surely inspire you. When you’re done reading these seven recommendations, make sure to check out other options, and not give up on your reading.
